Toronto's Start

Heading into this season, there are some questions for the Toronto Legion. Can they repeat the regular season they had in S56? They were one of the best teams last season, and after losing a couple of veterans, they signed some younger players, and drafted another LW, to try and repeat their season and have a better playoff run this time around. Wingers Ted Doughty and AK47 retired, while Sami Zayn and Luigi De Rossi signed in the off-season, which more or less gives Toronto the same sort of roster, besides their core getting better of course.

So far, nobody has been amazing, with Roman Sokolov leading the charge with 9 assists in 6 games. That's definitely a great output, and we hope he can keep it up over the course of the season. Luigi De Rossi leads the team with 5 goals on the season, while Xander Finn and Bo Boeser have 5 points a piece. Captain Verner Reinholdt has 2 goals and 2 assists to follow them up. Toronto's record of 4-1-1 is tied for the top of North America with the Quebec City Meute.

Let's take a look at their past few games:

Game 30 vs. Wranglers

This game is one in which did not go the Legion's way. The 1st Period had only one goal, which was a lone tally by Shawn Gretzky with his 1st of the season, off a pass from Felix Savard. In the 2nd, Verner Reinholdt tied the game off a pass by linemate Bo Boeser. Although, in the 3rd Period, Calgary scored the lone goal, and Jakub Pastrnak was the hero with the game winner. Jacob shut the door the rest of the way, saving 28 of 29 shots in the game. Torstein Ironside saved 27 of 29, which isn't bad itself, but it simply was not enough. Jacob took the 1st Star of the Game.

Game 25 vs. Express

This was a game where the Toronto Legion faced a rebuilder in the Cologne Express. Luigi De Rossi opened the scoring early, at 1:33 off a dish from Roman Sokolov. Only a couple of minutes later, Boeser's 2nd of the season made it 2-0, with assists to Sokolov and Verner Reinholdt. Then later in the period, winter came for Jon Snow who took a penalty, leading to a Xander Finn power play tally, with assists going to Sokolov and Boeser. Sokolov left that period with 3 assists. In the 2nd there was only one goal, and it was a PP marker from Luigi De Rossi with his 5th of the season, assisted by fellow newcomer Sami Zayn and veteran Roman Sokolov. This was also ex-Legion defenseman Jean-Claude Girard's first game against his former team, and he logged big minutes for Cologne. That 4-0 score held for the rest of the game, and Torstein Ironside recorded a 16 save shutout. Rookie goaltender Shawn Brodeur saved 34 of 38, and did all he could in this loss. Roman Sokolov record 4 assists, and earned 1st Star honours.

Game 20 vs. Wranglers

This was another game early in the season where the Wranglers and Legion faced off. In the 1st Period, Daring Do's only goal of the season so far came off an assist from Xander Finn. That was it for that period, as Toronto left it with a 1-0 lead. In the 2nd, MA Leblanc tied it up for Calgary, scoring off a pass by Shawn Gretzky. Only a couple of minutes later, however, Toronto re-gained their lead off a goal from Luigi De Rossi, with the assist to Xander Finn. The period would end with Toronto winning 2-1. In the 3rd, there was only one goal, and it was by Sami Zayn for the Legion. That made the score 3-1, and it held for the duration of the game. Torstein Ironside saved 26 of 27, and Jacob saved 21 of 24. Obviously, Ironside won that goaltending battle, and there will be many more between these two. Ironside earned 1st Star of the Game.

With a decent star for Toronto, and a hot start for defenseman Roman Sokolov, the question still remains on if they can stay consistent. The team is looking for more output, specifically from top liners Bo Boeser and Verner Reinholdt as well. If the team can keep gelling and Ironside can play up to his potential, the Legion will be a top team in the VHL.

And so far they are proving you right. + Sokolov, your goalie and obviously Petenis hehe. Btw, I don't if he's the first to do that, but he might play 73 regular season games. Interesting fact. Good luck against Calgary in the conference semis and then vs QUE, might be interesting to face you in finals and Petenis in particular.
