Claimed: Season 18 Draft review kind of

I have a new idea for a MS, since I like to write 2000 word MS', I might as well put in a lot of work for it. Here we have the Season 18 Draft and we will see who won the draft. We will take the record of every team between Season 18-25. This isn't perfect as to see who won the draft but it will be telling to see what record the teams had during the career of those drafted in Season 18.

As you can see, the Wanglers virtually owned Season 18 and 19 in the VHL but after that they missed the playoffs here and there but won the Cup 3 times in this 8 season window. They also had a record of 270-273-31 with a playoff record of 27-13-1. So you can see when they made the playoffs they made sure they made the games count by winning almost 30. Chouinard and Andreev were the only two draftees of note although after Season 23, Choiunard played for Davos. These two though won the cup together in Season 23. It was obvious that this team was built though a draft before S18 and used some picks after the Season 18 draft as well. Overall the team was good but just not built from the S18 draft.

Well damn, look at the Dynamo, they compiled a record of 379-149-48 with a playoff record of 30-21-7. The Dynamo also won 3 Continental Cups during this time all with Daisuke Kanou in net who was everything you wanted in a 1st overall pick. David Vidal was also a part of the 1st win in Season 20 but was traded away later in his career. Pekka Jarmuth won a cup but that was with a different team but he still was a Dynamo draftee. Overall the Dynamo had a very good draft mostly because of Kanou and they might be the obvious winners of the draft. Kanou won multiple awards and was an all-star every season of his career.

Helsinki didn't have a good draft at the end of the day with 3 selections who weren't with the team long enough to make a difference. However, with 312 wins over the 8 season period we will see them come to be a very good team possibly in future draft. They also won 1 Continental Cup in Season 22 so we will see in the future which draft they built around.

Madrid Thunder/Vasteras Iron Eagles: RS ~ 262-281-33, PO ~ 8-9-2

Season 18 Victory Cup Winner
Season 18 Terence Fong Trophy Winner as European Conference Champion
Season 18 Alexander Beketov Trophy Winner (David Henman)
Season 18 Sterling Labatte Trophy Winner (David Henman)
Season 18 Aidan Shaw Trophy Winner (Zach Voss)
Season 18 Grimm Jonsson Trophy Winner (David Henman)
Season 18 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Mason Dixon)
Season 24 Scott Boulet Trophy Winner (Lars Berger)
Season 25 Alexander Beketov Trophy Winner (James Bencharski)

Abdullah Jabir

Robin Big Snake

The Madrid/Vasteras went for it coming into Season 18 so they didn't have many draft picks. Abdullak Jabir and Robin Big Snake didn't do very much with them or in the VHL. As you can see with the Victory Cup win in Season 18, they went for it but fell short to the Wranglers who won back to back cups in 18/19. They didn't start to become relevant until Season 24/25/26 so we will see in a later series which draft class they built around. They weren't that bad with 262-281-33 with a 8-9-2 record over this 8 season span.

New York Americans: RS ~ 232-308-36, PO ~ 9-11-1

Season 23 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy Winner (Dustin McKullen)
Season 23 Sterling Labatte Trophy Winner (Dante Terragni)
Season 24 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy Winner (Benjamin Glover & Mitch Higgins)
Season 24 David Knight Trophy Winner (Sam Helberg)
Season 24 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Keon Henderson & Ignatius Feltersnatch)
Season 25 Devon Marlow-Marta Trophy Winner as North American Conference Champion
Season 25 Aidan Shaw Trophy Winner (Benjamin Glover)
Season 25 David Knight Trophy Winner (Sam Helberg)
Season 25 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Jukka Hakkinen)

Jukka Hakkinen

Gordon Shore

Kobe Bryant

The Americans drafted 1 HoF player in Season 18 and that was Jukka Hakkinen at 3rd overall. He had a good career individually but in a era dominated by Toronto and Calgary they had it tough going 232-308-36 but had a playoff record of 9-11-1 which was something they didn't really achieve until Season 24/25 when they built around later drafts. It is unfortunate Haikkinen couldn't do much in his career.

Riga Reign: RS ~ 286-250-40, PO ~ 10-10-5

Season 19 Grimm Jonsson Trophy Winner (Olivier Scarlett)
Season 20 Brett Slobodzian Trophy Winner (Tarik Saeijs & Patrick Bergqvist)

Season 20 Mike Szatkowski Trophy Winner (Tarik Saeijs & Max Kronenburg)
Season 20 Kevin Brooks Trophy Winner (Tarik Saeijs)
Season 20 Scott Boulet Trophy Winner (J.D Stormwall)
Season 20 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Alex Stoyanovich & Markus Strauss)
Season 21 Alexander Beketov Trophy Winner (Olivier Scarlett)
Season 21 Sterling Labatte Trophy Winner (Olivier Scarlett & Voittu Jannula)
Season 21 Grimm Jonsson Trophy Winner (Olivier Scarlett & Voittu Jannula)

Olivier Scarlett

Tarik Saeijs

Michael Angelo - S22

Mattias Backlund

The Riga Reign, the poor Reign, couldn't get out of the 1st round of the playoffs. First they were always pretty good being built around Olivier Scarlett and Tarik Saeijs who were great during their time in Riga. First Riga normally finished around 2nd in the Euro, and compiled a record of 286-250-40 and had a playoff record of 10-10-5 which is amazing that they played 25 playoff games without ever getting out of the 1st round. Michael Angelo was a cup winner but not with Riga as he was traded to Helsinki not to long after being drafted. Tough times in Riga from Season 18-25 of what could have been.

Seattle Bears: RS ~ 196-332-48, PO ~ 3-7-1

Season 20 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Markus Strauss & Alex Stoyanovich)
Season 21 Kevin Brooks Trophy Winner (Markus Strauss)
Season 21 Scott Boulet Trophy Winner (Cam Fowler)
Season 21 Mikka Virkkunen Trophy Winner (Phil Gerrard)
Season 21 Dustin Funk Trophy Winner (Joey Clarence & Kevyn Hesje)
Season 22 Mike Szatkowski Trophy Winner (Markus Strauss)
Season 22 Kevin Brooks Trophy Winner (Markus Strauss)
Season 24 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy Winner (Mitch Higgins & Benjamin Glover)

Anton Brekker - S20, S24, S25

Joey Clarence - S23

Vadim Volkov

Magnus Huuskonen

Seattle did great by being able to snag Anton Brekker with the 4th overall pick and they should have been happy to get the Future HoF here. However he was traded to Davos after 1 season with Seattle so he went on to win 3 Continental Cups in his career and is hailed as one of the best of his generation. Good job Seattle. Joey Clarence was also a good pick being selected in Round 3 and he won a cup but in Calgary. The Bears ended up being the whipping boys in Season 18-25 because they couldn't even break 200 wins over that span with 196-332-48 with a 3-7-1 playoff record. What could have been if they kept Brekker.

Season 24 Alexander Beketov Trophy Winner (Phil Gerrard)
Season 24 Aidan Shaw Trophy Winner (Aidan Shaw & Daisuke Kanou)
Season 24 Dustin Funk Trophy Winner (Phil Gerrard)
Season 25 Grimm Jonsson Trophy Winner (Olivier Scarlett)

Cedric Pollack - S20

Peyton Nydroj - S21

Biggie Shakur - S21, S23

Aiden Shaw - S21

Greinke

Toronto had 3 picks before they picked future HoF Aidan Shaw so they have to count their lucky stars to select him with the 10th overall pick. 4 teams passed on him including Riga twice and Seattle once, Davos had selected Kanou 1st so they didn't need a goalie so they get a pass on it. However, Shaw was everything that Toronto needed and he stayed his whole career in Toronto guiding them to 1 Cup in Season 21. Peyton Nydroj and Biggie Shakur were also part of the team that won. Pollack was traded away after being drafted and won a cup as a bit player in Davos in S20 against Toronto. Overall this Toronto team from S18-25 went 364-184-28 with a playoff record of 25-28-3. As you can tell the Legion were dynamite in the regular season but couldn't get it together in the playoffs losing on 3 separate occasions in the finals. However, they still had assembled a great team from this draft.

Verdict:

The Dynamo were the winners of this draft with 3 cups and 379 wins over this 8 season span. Kanou was the backbone of this team and they got it right when they took him 1st. Toronto was 2nd in my opinion with 364 wins and 1 cup. Shaw was almost as good as Kanou in the playoffs but the Legion offense could almost never solve him come playoff time. Calgary came out like bandits with Chouinard in the 3rd round and he helped them win in Season 23 so they get 3rd in my opinon and Riga is a hard luck 4th with HoF Saeijs and Scarlett but no finals appearance. Seattle would be higher if they kept Brekker and the other teams didn't have anyone of note.

Not to be a dick but only about 1150 words of it is writing. The other 1400 is awards. @Devise @Beketov I know it requires effort, but...

This one is a hard one. It really depends on if he wrote those out himself while doing his research, or if it was copied and pasted from other areas. It's true, those awards aren't technically writing.

Any follow-up, @TheLastOlympian07 ?

I wrote them out during research. For later MS's I was just going to use 'new words' for the word count like I would copy out most of these words but take out the Season 18 part and add Season 26 for the Season 19 Draft and just add in Season 26 awards and so on, so probably would be two weeks worth of work with just 1000 or so new words
