Let us talk [1/2]

Lately, as everyone knows, the VHL has been transitioning itself in the hopes that we see a better "future" when comparing it to the recent "past" and currently our "present". The first of many moves we're likely to see have consisted of moving the LR threads (shit idea, but I seen their point in it), hiring two new commissioners in @Devise and @Beketov, an announcement that the BOG will be getting revamped (would be nice to see what they do - and who does what), and overall, just more shit getting done quicker and more efficiently. While these are all good starts, bigger moves are going to have the be played if the VHL is going to be rescued from he dark, grim "inactivity" period. I won't be the one to cry "the league is dying", though I have said it before. Yet, let's be honest with ourselves here. The league isn't necessarily 'healthy" either. Right? We have a huge number of players on welfare and while I do agree that they're a good part of the side and are needed, some do fuck all for activity. Something in my eyes that would help with activity is board activity. The SHL, while a different league and in no means comparable really, has two things on us and it's member amount of activity. Their board is usually bumping 24/7 with lots of posts on articles, game threads and shit like that. THAT is what we need. I've tried the last little while writing articles that stirred up fun, involved tons of people, offered ideas and got people talking. Hopefully this one does it too.

Ideas to raise league activity

1. Find Quality VHL and VHLM GM's

They get hired, they step down. They got hired, they went inactive. They got hired, they're shit GM's or raise shit around the league. These are not the GM's we need in the VHLM. The first step here is not hiring dicks, assholes or people who have a past history (or current one) of being immature cunts. Not a hard one there. Secondly, we have a couple GM's right now @Megster and one who currently stepped down that didn't do a whole lot and/or are inactive. I get giving new members a chance, but if you have history of going inactive, earn your chance or sulk. We need better VHLM GM's. @Frank @Corco. I know it's a shitty spot, but @Kendrick was very passionate about a team - though, with the addition of relocation. The VHLM is a starter for new members. Fuck team history. That's for the VHL. If a GM is going to be dedicated and despite sometimes maybe being a dick they're 100% committed to the league and new members, don't see how it's a bad thing.

2. More opportunities for members to be active

There SHL offers ways to earn TPE, but also money. This gives them more chances to better their players, but also gives them opportunities to display their activity to the league. If one player becomes more active, generally it rubs off on other players. I get it fucks the update scale or inflation or whatever the shit, but the more opportunities we have to make money, the better it is for you, myself and the league. Why not hold more seasonal things? Post around the board? Find a way to improve rivalries and/or game threads?

3. Be inventive - offer to members unique things other leagues don't offer.

Don't know the ideas. They're not 100% ideas, but they could be something that blossoms. Some may be stupid, some may be bold. Some might not work while others may work very nicely. What about some of these?

1. VHL Stock Markets - Have seasonal, or weekly, stocks based off organizations and their performances. Pretty much, networths and total values of organizations or buying "stocks" and "shares". This allows players to play with their money - potentially earning some, or possibly losing some. We'd have to find a system, but it wouldn't be too hard. If a team is kicking ass and winning, stocks are high. People likely will buy. If they all of a sudden rebuild, time to probably sell as the price is gonna dip. If a team sucks but lands a huge player, maybe time to buy in on stocks as they might shoot up a couple of points, etc. I get it;s not how stocks work, but it likely could bring about activity.

2. Weekly Players Section - Here's another job for members and it's super fucking easy. Monday through Sunday, combine all the sims and find the weeks "weekly players". 3 Forwards, 3 Dman and 3 goalies? Or whatever. Maybe 5-5-3? Pay them 2 TPE for the week (VHL.com and job?? = 2 TPE) for 8 TPE total with media spot?? Have them make a picture of the 3 players, then the statistics of each while posting their names? @solas @punkhippie

3. Ability to purchase equipment/Revamp the store - May need slightly better contracts/cap, or different ways to earn a little jingle, but maybe let players buy some gloves, sticks, skates or goalie pads? Let them have a minor affect on their players? no more than +2 or 3 to their players for a total cost of 500k for once a season. Let them affect two attributes for a total of 4 TPE for 500k.

4. Team OWNERS - A little different, sure. Usually the VHL hires the managers, but let's bring in some Darryl Katz and shit. Put every team at ZERO owners. No one owns anyone. AGAIN, we may have to look at financing here. Maybe raise the cap? Maybe raise contracts? OR maybe allow for 50% of your money to carryover?? Example, I have 7 MILL when I retire, 3.5M carries over to the next player. For initial purchase of an organization, it's 10MILL. Whoever buys it, gets to pick the GM, and shit like that. It could lead to trouble, but we'd find ways and rules to fix it. If someone buys a team, no one can fire current GM's that are CURRENTLY GMing. So right now, I GM Seattle,  STZ in NYA, Hedgey in Rig ETC. NONE of those GM's can be fired. The only way the owners can hire a new GM is by the current GM's stepping down. IF and when they do, the GM the owner hires can FIRE that GM if they choose to. Maybe we can hand out GM contracts? 1M capping out at per season?

5. Bring Team Finances into play - Sell merchandise based off team performance, tickets - have the team make sweet MONEY. Put this money towards building an arena. Maybe have every team start with a 10,000 capacity shit hole and have them build.

We're at 1,151 words as of the end of this sentence but let's keep on going..

NEW POINT TASKS -  I think that's a big thing that drives the SHL. NEW and updating point tasks. Not the same old shit that we struggle to write about because everything has been written about a thousand fucking times. you go back through the seasons and look at all the writing and excluding the odd few, it's like jerking off to the same old porn flick again and again and again... and again. This is stale. This is boring. No wonder no one gives a shit and doesn't read them or post. Why not have weekly point tasks or how about this??

Each season, have a point task at every THIRD of the season. So start the season off with a point task which you'd give members until the 23rd game to complete. The following between the 23rd-46th game and the next between the 46th and 72nd. This offers 3 chances at activity, earning TPE and "enjoyment" and "variety" throughout the league. Then, in playoffs, have a point tasks every round or each season hold a "champions point task" similar to Championship Week in the SHL. EACH point task, a member has to post a 300 word article or do some sort of graphic. EXAMPLE:

S57: Point Task #1 (Game 1 to Game 23)

Written:

It's the start of a new year. You may or may not have new faces in your locker room. Explain walking back into the locker room and what you felt and seen? Did you feel a sense of joy, sadness or anger? Did you see your buddies, a new team mascot, a donkey wearing a mask or a teammate you absolutely despise? 300 words.

Graphic:

Using your graphic skills and while using the above information, create visual of your teams locker room. Lack of effort will result in a lower payout. Try and be unique + creative.

That's 1,400+ words - so I'm done for the day. YET, discuss everyone. Let's bring about new, unique and interesting ideas to the league members, BOG and commissioners. Maybe an issue with the league is that it's the same old shit and it's getting stale.  ALSO, #Banackock4BOG

Huh? How am I in this discussion.

Also, I should state you vouched for Laflamme but he kind of fits the whole "earn your chance or sulk" because he kind of went inactive...again.

He's still kicking about, but I do not believe at his activity level he is anywhere close to being an acceptable VHLM GM.

And did you not put your name in the hat for being a VHLM GM? Wanting to relocate? I remember your name popping up and such.

I did put my name in, but that was under different Commish's who felt Robbie was a better option for it. I did get a VHLM GM job but given what state it is in, I stepped down after one year because it was obvious the VHLM was not something we really hold to a high standard.

He's still kicking about? As the Yukon GM he last posted there September 2nd.

I don't know about Banana vouching, but it was me who kept sticking up for him.

Also no @Banackock on the equipment. It's unnecessary.

That was prior to him being a GM, I just hate people sticking up for people who obviously have gone inactive and don't seem to be interested in changing that notion. Yes we welcome everyone with open arms but if they have a history of bailing why are they given the driver seat to something we obviously know is at the leagues worry. In fact he got offended when I called him inactive. I like the guy and respect him, but you also gotta know when to just come on and post that you shouldn't be the GM.

What ideas do you have? Let's hear em :) I sorta agree, maybe. Dunno. Could be something that works!

Also for the record, good media spot. I'd like to stress that while we may not always institute the ideas people suggest verbatim, we do listen. And in a lot of cases the basis for changes that have happened in the league were other peoples ideas to begin with. Sure we may tweak or change things as it fits this league, but this is exactly the type of discussion that we need in the BoG.

Keep it up Bana and just like my boy @Beketov you may have a winning campaign on your hands. :P

And I fucking agree with the thing on themed point tasks like when we have doubles for a mock draft or whatever. We need topics chosen that generate league activity, league discussion, and get the people writing it to be more aware of the league instead of only checking on their team's game posts.

two things.

One, @Beaviss was kind enough to take me on as a Co-gm of the lynx, and I would definitely be interested in throwing my hat in the ring for a VHLM GM. position  One reason I think The VHLM has fallen a little flat, is that you have to be interested in developing players rather than building a team.  Honestly, when playing EHM, I almost exclusively play the OHL because I love seeing where my players end up 10 years down the road and knowing I had a part in that.   I know the league is hesitant to hire "noobs" but I hope my activity level these past months has been a testament to my drive for this league, and reflects well on me when you guys decide to choose new GMs.

My second point is two fold.

I think The league should give a small portion of power to the GM's in the way that GM's can offer their team additional opportunities to earn TPE. And I think the TPE cap should be RAISED for the VHLM.

Hear me out.

We're all about building a community and building teams. but what team building activities do we have besides locker rooms? If we gave GM's the ability to offer their teams certain tasks, or even just something like an activity check for an additional 1 or 2 tpe a week, I think you will see a significant increase in active players, even if its just for this small bump.

In regards to the VHLM TPE cap, I think that if the VHLM is to be used as a developmental league, It should offer increased opportunities for development.  as of now, the only advantage to playing in the VHLM is play time, while that is enough for some, I will admit, it still took a decent while through the season before my player actually became interesting to me. And that took doing the maximum TPE every single week plus a donation.  If you think that is gonna draw a majority of people, i'm sorry you're just lying to yourself. We need to make the league easier to break into.  I can tell you even I still feel like an outsider to a point as most of the members i see here, are long time members.  The most exciting thing is seeing your player advance and get better noticeably, so why not make that a focal point for the first two years? Rapid development will hook users and increase the amount of people who stick around. What is the average of people who bail early on players? something like 36TPE?

Yes, this will increase the TPE players have when they enter the league and records will eventually fall and all that.  But don't be so afraid of losing the past that you lose the future.  Records are made to be broken, and records being broken is Exciting as fuck.  Name me one historically significant thing that happened this season?

I'll wait.

I can elaborate on this more but I've pretty much written a Media spot here.

Side note, I've uploaded a few videos to Youtube that never even cross a hundred views. But then I download a two minute video clip off an Asian site and reupload it to Pornhub two years ago, randomly checked back on it a few months back, and fucking surprised that it now has 940,590 views. Still waiting on the day it passes a million
