Volkov Early Free Agent Rankings

Last week, an article was published about Luca Volkov's unwillingness to sign a contract with the Wranglers until the season is over. This week we had an insider source who was able to gather a general ranking of where Luca Volkov is interested in playing next season. Although lists are bound to change and Calgary still tops it, it is interesting to see where this could end up leading towards the end of the season. But Calgary doesn't look as bad as people though and they still could make that jump next season with Volkov and Savard back on defense.

 

1.   Volkov is happy in Calgary for now, but if they stand pat on their off-season again and do nothing to improve it could force his hand to look at other options. But GM Austin Gow has supported Volkov's long development and recently awarded him the captaincy this season. Luca has no interest in betraying the trust Gow has given him thus far. 

 

2.  Volkov was born in Davos when his father, Vadim played there for 3 successful seasons. Playing at home for a successful franchise is likely the only thing that even has a slight chance to consider him leaving Calgary. But Davos has a lot of players and is tight against the cap going forward. This is unlikely to happen.

 

3. The Bears just started their rebuild and have a long way to go but there's something that is appealing to the franchise about Volkov. 

 

4.  Due strong ties with Volkov's agency (Ansgar Snijider) Riga will always be a favorite to land a player from Izaak Muller's agency. Volkov isn't an exception.
