ES: O’Callahan is centering the teams second even strength line between Clyne and Lazarus. The Aces coaching staff immediately put him into a top six role and surrounded him with wingers that he can produce with.  Further, O’Callahan finds himself playing also on the fourth line with Komarov and Gudnason on his wings, two of the teams best forwards.

PP: O’Callahan also centers the Aces second powerplay unit between Kenzie and Clyne. Getting powerplay minutes is important for a player like O’Callahan, who can use his speed and skill in space to create high quality scoring chances.

PK: The coaching staff also finds O’Callahan defensively responsible enough to play on the second penalty kill unit with Clyne. He has been working hard in practice on his face-offs and positioning in hopes of keeping his spot on the PK unit.

2 - Statistics

Through nine games of VHLM action, O’Callahan has posted the following stat line:

3 goals – 6 assists – 9 points – Minus 2 rating – 15 shots

A point per game pace for the young rookie is nothing to sneeze at, but looking into his stats on a deeper level leaves something to be desired. First, his minus-two rating on a first place Vegas team is not a positive. For a team that scores a lot of goals, we would like to see his plus/minus rating increase moving forward. Second, 15 shots on goal is among the worst on the team. For comparison, Komarov has 76 shots on goal through nine games. This shows that despite posting a point-per-game pace, O’Callahan is not generating enough shots on net and his shooting percentage (20%) will certainly not be attainable on a regular basis. As he continues to put in work on the ice, look for these numbers to improve.
