Childhood

Born in the outskirts of Minneapolis and St. Paul Zach Weise grew up surrounded by hockey from birth. His Father, Antony Weise, was a prominent hockey player throughout his high school and college career before suffering a career ending injury sustained in an auto accident after being struck by a drunk driver on his way home from a late-night preseason practice only a week before the opening game of his senior season. Determined to not this injury take him from the game, after graduating with a BA chemistry degree, Anthony was hired as a high school as both an AP Chemistry and the Varsity hockey coach. Anthony and his team went on to the State Championship in only his second season as coach. Zach’s mother, Michelle Weise, while not as sports oriented as his mother was just as dedicated to her studies and passions as Anthony. Graduating with a double major in psychology and social studies, her only free time was spent with Anthony or watching his games from the stands. Growing up with success crazed parents that valued hard work, grit, and dedication created the perfect storm for a future hockey star. As soon as he could stand on his own feet with no support Zach was taught to skate at the many public rinks in Minneapolis. When Zach was given his first hockey stick at the age of 4 for Christmas he knew what he wanted to do with his life. Constantly pestering his father to bring down to a rink Zach practiced skills that many other players didn’t pick up themselves until later. Consistently being placed in the highest-level team he could be in for each season throughout Elementary and Middle school. For Zach, earning a spot on the High School was nearly guaranteed.

High School

It was declared no contest that Zach had earned a spot on the JV hockey team which he earned an A on his jersey before he had played his game, of course his father’s reputation certainly played a role in this as well. Because of this family reputation some of his teammates that were less familiar with previous seasons were wary of the freshman thinking that his inclusion in the team may be the result of nepotism. Any doubts about Zach were squashed as quickly as they were risen. Scoring 10 goals in only his 8 games with the team as well as a few assists to boot. Zach finished his first season leading his team in goals and points and in his district as well. Unfortunately, he missed that year’s playoffs due to a minor foot injury but quickly recovered and was promoted to his school’s varsity team retaining the A on his jersey.

Despite his quick success at the school it did not translate to his popularity. Quiet in demeanor, Zach could be found more often with his nose in a book or doing homework unlike his teammates who wouldn’t be found dead getting better than a C on their report card. Like his mother, Zach was a straight a student that valued both his success on and off the ice which ultimately made him a more disciplined player. Despite what people thought of him in the classroom Zach was a completely different person on the ice.

When he was on the ice Zach made sure eyes were on him. Consistently being a point per game player or better he certainly turned heads. While not as flashy as some of his teammates he had an innate scoring ability that many others lacked. Finishing his second season with 35 goals (3 of which were a hattrick) and 15 assists Zach was a player that other teams feared. After his second Zach found a high school sweetheart that was dedicated to her studies just like his father had with Zach’s mother in college. The couple would later be voted cutest couple in their senior yearbook. They are still together to this day and it’s expected to not be too long before Zach proposes to Emma.

Zach’s finally two seasons were easily his best. Earning the C in third season Zach lead his school to back to back new season wins records. Earning more than 50+ points in each season Zach was the best player in his district. Winning multiple awards each season and many more player of the month distinctions Zach’s parents couldn’t be prouder of their son. In his final season with his school the high school senior lead his team to their first state championship win in a decade adding even more to the Weise family legacy. Zach’s luck was also turned around in terms of popularity being voted as Prom king. Zach went on to graduate with a 4.0 GPA and third in his class. Zach was quickly added to Hall of Alumni at his school being the youngest to have that honor. His portrait is proudly displayed next to his father’s. Soon after graduating Zach accepted an offer from the Ottawa Lynx as to happily continue his own hockey career and proudly continue his father legacy. Zach also plans on continuing his education through attending online college courses.
