1/2 Claimed: Vadim Volkov

Recommended Posts

Vadim Volkov was drafted by the Seattle Bears in the Season 18 VHL Entry Draft with the 3rd round pick, 24th overall. However, before even playing a game for the franchise, Volkov was traded from the Seattle Bears to the HC Davos Dynamo for a Season 19 Toronto 3rd Round Draft Pick (Kyle Marquis).

Season 18 - Bern Royals

Season 18 Regular Season

After being traded from Seattle to Davos, Vadim started his career with the Bern Royals of the VHLM. Vadim had a very decent season with 31 goals and 39 assists for 70 points. Bern finished with just 52 points on the season which was 19 points behind the Kolari Panthers for the final playoff spot. Bern was a team that had little help in terms of players as the leading point scorer had just 78 points with Volkov coming 2nd.

Season 19 - Bern Royals

Season 19 Regular Season
S19 - VHLM - BER - 72 GP | 62 G | 58 A | 120 P | -3 | 25 PIM | 99 H | 428 SH | 22 SB | 0 GWG

Season 19 Playoffs
N/A

Vadim found himself back in the VHLM for another season in Season 19. Davos wasn't happy with the way he was practicing so Davos sent him back down for a 2nd season. Vadim responded with 62 goals and 58 assists for 120 points. Which was 50 points higher than his S18 production. However, Bern regressed to last in the Euro with 37 points which was 55 points out of the playoffs spot.

Season 20 - Minot Gladiators

Season 20 Regular Season
S20 - VHLM - MIN - 72 GP | 65 G | 67 A | 132 P | +34 | 36 PIM | 107 H | 466 SH | 18 SB | 7 GWG

Season 20 Playoffs
S20 - VHLm - MIN - 5 GP | 3 G | 7 A | 10 P | -1 | 2 PIM | 9 H | 41 SH | 0 SB | 0 GWG

Davos was still not happy with the rate of improvement by Vadim so they sent him to the VHLM once more. The VHLM undertook a massive change which saw them move away from the parent club and the VHLM became independent from the VHLM in terms of how players play for different teams. So now instead of playing for the Bern Royals, Vadim was drafted to the Minot Gladiators. In Minot, Vadim scored 65 goals and assisted on 67 goals for 132 points. It was his best season to date in the VHLM. Minot finished 2nd in the NA Conference with 81 points which was 27 points behind the Brampton Battalion. In just 5 games the Battalion defeated Minot. Vadim scored 3 goals and assisted on 7 goals for 10 points in just 5 games, so it wasn't due to a lack of trying for Vadim that Minot got sent home.

Season 21 - HC Davos Dynamo

Season 21 Regular Season
S21 - VHL - DAV - 72 GP | 34 G | 47 A | 81 P | +4 | 18 PIM | 49 H | 320 SH | 19 SB | 8 GWG

Season 21 Playoffs
S21 - VHL - DAV - 11 GP | 4 G | 6 A | 10 P | -2 | 8 PIM | 21 H | 57 SH | 5 SB | 0 GWG

After spending 3 seasons in the VHLM, Davos was finally happy with where Vadim's game was at and called him up to the VHL. Vadim showed he was worth the wait with 34 goals and 47 assists for 81 points in his rookie season. Davos also had a pretty nice season finishing with 86 points which was 10 points behind the Riga Reign. Helsinki also finished with 86 points but had less wins than Davos so Davos moved onto the finals. In the playoffs, Davos upset the Reign in 6 games in the first round. In the finals, the Dynamo would play old rivals in Toronto. However, in 5 short games, the Dynamo fell to the Legion. Vadim scored 4 goals and assisted on 6 goals for 10 points in the playoffs which was a good showing by him.

Season 22 - HC Davos Dynamo

Season 22 Regular Season
S22 - VHL - DAV - 72 GP | 24 G | 67 A | 91 P | +13 | 31 PIM | 37 H | 246 SH | 149 SB | 4 GWG

Season 22 Playoffs
S22 - VHL - DAV - 7 GP | 2 G | 9 A | 11 P | 0 | 11 PIM | 1 H | 35 SH | 18 SB | 0 GWG

In Season 22, Vadim switched to Defense, despite the switch he put up the best point total in his young VHL career. Vadim scored 24 goals and assisted on 67 goals for 91 points. It was a surprise that he had his best season to date after a switch to Defense. The Dynamo made the playoffs once more as the 2nd place team but finished with 99 points which tied the 1st place Helsinki Titans. After a 7 game thriller the Titans moved onto the finals. Vadim scored 2 goals and assisted on 9 goals for 11 points. It was a disappointing end to a good season for Vadim and Davos.

Season 23 - HC Davos Dynamo

Season 23 Regular Season
S23 - VHL - DAV - 72 GP | 16 G | 51 A | 67 P | +34 | 64 PIM | 87 H | 184 SH | 135 SB | 3 GWG

Season 23 Playoffs
S23 - VHL - DAV - 6 GP | 1 G | 5 A | 6 P | -2 | 26 PIM | 11 H | 23 SH | 13 SB | 0 GWG

Vadim announced that this would be his last season in the VHL. Which was surprising since this was only his 3rd VHL campaign. Vadim scored 16 goals and assisted on 51 goals for 67 points. Davos finished tops in the Euro with 111 points which was 4 points ahead of the Helsinki Titans. In the 1st round, the Dynamo lost in 6 games. Vadim scored 1 goal and assisted on 5 goals of 6 points.

Vadim came closest to winning the Cup in Season 21 with Davos. It is a shame he ended his career so quickly after spending half of his time in the VHLM. If there is such a thing, he would be in the VHLM HoF without a doubt after three seasons. Most players move on after two at most, so it was surprising that he went back for a third and more surprising he retired after 3 season in the VHL.

@TheLastOlympian07 I know you keep on pumping these out, but are they ancient HoF articles or something?

Volkov is not in the Hall of Fame lol.

Thanks for doing this ! Completely forgot what a huge season I had when I switched him to defense.

I outscored him right?

Probably, but he had 4 Boulets and 5 Continental Cups on top of that scoring pace lol. And I believe he set the hits record at the time as well.

Yeah my players dont hit, so that part I couldn't keep up with. But already happy with outscoring him and being close in cup wins with 4 :) With just FA once, unlike Jenkins

@Victor or @Higgins would be able to compare them better than I would. I was around for the very start of O'Malley then left.

Review: Another great chapter of an amazing series. I can only imagine the knowledge and research required, as sometimes the stats don't tell everything. The background and insight you have makes for a wonderful read and allows for newer members to learn about past players and what agencies like Kyle have achieved.
