Saskatoon (AP) -- It was a season in the making, and Gabriel McAllister even doubted at times that they would get there. But following Game 4 in Las Vegas, he realized that he had gotten to the goal: he had won the VHLM championship.

Well, to say that he did it may be a misnomer. It was a full team effort from the Wild, as numerous players grew throughout the season and stepped up in the playoffs, including fellow winger Daring Do, goalie Brienne O’Tarth, and newcomer defenseman Boner. It only took six games for the Wild to get past the number two seed Ottawa Lynx, then they swept the four seed Las Vegas Aces in four games to get revenge from last year’s finals.

“This is awesome, so awesome,” McAllister said while being soaked with sparkling cider in the locker room after the game. “So much work, and so much we put into this, and it’s finally here. We did it!”

McAllister only had two goals in the finals, but they were crucial ones: OT game winners in both Game 3 and Game 4 to take the title. Especially combined with his Game 6 OT winner against Ottawa, McAllister was particularly clutch in this series. And with a VHLM-leading 21 points and second-best 9 goals, it’s entirely possible that McAllister wins his second straight playoff MVP award.

And for the Warren agency, this title was a long time coming. Committed to only having one player at a time, with a break in between, the agency had not had a VHLM title to its name since Season 32 (Oslo’s last championship). Hans Wingate lost in the semifinals both of his VHLM seasons. Now, with McAllister poised to go to the VHL, he is able to leave the minors on a high note and hopefully continue this success in the next phase of his career.
