Quick Look at the S54 Draft

Recommended Posts

The S54 draft was one that actually packed a lot of punch and could be one that will be one of the most underrated in VHL Draft History. Let us take a look at how it went down and how they stand now in terms of TPE.

1st Overall: Hudson Abbott 199 TPE

The Helsinki Titans traded for the 1st overall pick once more this draft for back to back seasons and took defenseman Hudson Abbott who had 199 TPE at the time. Right now he is sitting at 431 TPE which is a 232 TPE improvement. That is pretty crazy since we have only entered Season 55 now. He has not found his way offensively yet but he should get there. It should also be known that he has almost hit that TPE sweetspot where the player agent will stop practicing after around 500 tpe to 700.

2nd Overall: Fook Yu 222 TPE

The Quebec City Meute took Fook Yu with the 2nd overall pick after Davos traded down from the position. Yu has improved 157 TPE since the draft which is pretty good but has since been passed by Abbott. Yu is doing good in Quebec so far but has just scored 41 points in his rookie season. However, that is not Yu's game at all as he looks to be a dominate two way force.

3rd Overall: Torstein Ironside 210 TPE

Ironside was drafted with 210 TPE but has improved by 177 TPE to 387 at the start of his 2nd season. He has also passed Yu in terms of TPE but he hasnt had that much success playing on a rebuilding Legion squad. However he has reached t he 25 win mark with a save percentage of 0.917 in his first season which means he can only get better right?

4th Overall: Aleksi Federov 211 TPE

Federov was taken by his player agents team so he too was on a rebuilding squad. He has improved by 161 TPE since his rookie season. 43 points last season by a rookie defender was not bad at all. However there might be talks of trade for Federov in the future to help out Seattle and the rebuild.

5th Overall: Shawn Gretzky 185 TPE

Gretzky was drafted at 5th overall to the Dynamo who were looking to take him 2nd overall. However, Davos took a risk that paid off when they traded down hoping to get Gretzky at 5th overall. Gretzky has improved by 182 TPE since the draft which is 2nd amongst the top 5 well behind Abbott who is taking steroids.
