VHLM Players in the S54 World Cup

 

There is over ten players that are getting their first taste of pro hockey life at the World Cup, with all the teams playing at least one fresh faced rookie in their 12 man line up. Surprisingly a lot of these players aren't on the Mercenaries team either, the teams that are typically favored to take home a medal in the World Cup have rookies playing, including Scandinavia, Europe, United States, along with the Mercenaries. This article will look at the potential transition for some of these players from the minor league system to playing with and against the best players in the VHL. Not all of these players are slated to make the jump to the VHL next season either, there are a few who are likely to spend S55 in the VHLM again. Either way it is a great learning process to see where exactly their game is at and potentially pack a World Cup medal to their resume before ever playing in the big league.

 

Scandinavia - D - Diego Jokinen - @Ahma

Representing his home land of Finland in the World Cup playing for the Scandinavian roster on defense. The young defender was drafted by Helsinki two seasons ago and will be making the move to the VHL after winning a championship with Las Vegas this season. He is looking to win a gold medal before joining the defending Continental Cup champions, which would be quite the resume for the young Diego Jokinen. So far in the tourney Jokinen has three assists and seven hits, which puts him in the middle of the pack for rookie skaters, but the best defender not playing in the VHL last season.

 

Europe - G - Key Perought - @NUCK

A huge weight for the VHLM goaltender is that he was the only available goalie for team Europe in the World Cup. They have a veteran laded line up on forward, but their defense is something to snicker at. This doesn't seem like the best scenario for Perought as he makes his pro debut in the World Cup. In the VHLM playoffs his team almost won the wildcard series with Ottawa with Perought posting a 1-1-1 record with a 0.925 SV%. In the World Cup he's struggled, but the thing about the World Cup is that you can win three games in a row in the elimination round and win a gold medal. Round robin only matters for seeding. Perought has a 2-6-0 record and a 0.879 SV% for Europe right now.

 

United States - FW - Gabriel McAllister - @CowboyinAmerica

Firing onto the VHLM season last in Season 54 he was signed by the Saskatoon Wild and became a sensation along side Bo Boeser for the Wild. He scored 13 goals in 17 games in the regular season and then along side Boeser, led the Wild to within two wins of the VHLM championship against the heavily favored Las Vegas team. He scored 12 goals in 11 playoff games. Now making his pro debut, a full season before he is even draft eligible, McAllister has 2 goals and 2 assists through 8 round robin games for the United States. Currently USA is in the top seed of the round robin so McAllister is providing scoring depth to the medal hopeful team in the red, white and blue.

Review

Very nice write up Higgins. Nice to give some other players some spotlight rather than the usual suspects. These three prospects are three very different prospects to look at as well considering their 'Agencies'. One we know is a good member but is on welfare, one could make great players granted he stays active and one can make great players period. Could use some color though but otherwise no complaints.
