Early Childhood

Kristjan Härmä was born and raised in Rakvere, Estonia to a single mother. Kristjan's mother, Hanna, was a hard worker and did everything she could for her son to follow his dreams. When he told his mother at the young age of five that he wanted to be a hockey player - Hanna was taken aback. She knew this wasn't a common path for a young boy in Estonia. Most young children in Estonia are looking toward football, basketball, volleyball and other long-standing sports. But, unlike their neighbor to the north in Finland, Estonia had never grown into a hockey country. While a few small leagues existed for those that enjoyed the sports, no developmental programs existed for aspiring young children to take advantage of and hone their skills. Hanna worked very hard and finally found a way for young Kristjan to practice his game. Kristjan's earliest memories were of him and his mother making the travel to the closest rink and skating around. His mother would go onto the ice with Kristjan and work on his puck handling. While not able to join a real team he was getting valuable time on the ice and worked unrelenting on his ability with the puck. Hanna would set up cones for Kristjan and have him move the puck through the cones faster and faster. Once he was able to move them through the cones with no trouble she would make him do it with his eyes closed until he was able to do the same thing before. Kristjan developed the feeling of the puck on his stick and a solid base of puck control from the time with his mother. Little did Hanna know but she was setting young Kristjan up to become a very talented puck handler.

Late Childhood

Kristjan reached a level in which simple rink time would not allow him to progress any further than he already had and that he needed to actually see time on the ice. Hanna, being the supportive mother that she was moved her, Kristjan and Kristjan's younger brother Päävo to Tallinn. Päävo at this time had decided he wanted to follow the path along with his older brother Kristjan. The two of them went on to join one of only 3 juniors teams in the Tallinn area and immediately had a major impact on the league. The two youngsters began tearing up a league of their peers and propelled Kassid EJHC to a winning season and Kristjan set the JHC record for most points in a season with 134 over 30 games. The young boy was finally starting to see what he had. He spent the next 3 years developing on Kassid and became a headturner in the stand. Other teams parents and fans would cheer every time that Kristjan got the puck, because he was showing something they had never seen before from a young Estonian hockey player. The skills to transcend these childs leagues and beyond the Estonian Hockey league. The ability to move onto the world stage and become someone representing his home country among countless faceless stars that blend into one amalgation. Time was running out on Kristjan's time in the EJHC and he was ready to make the jump to the next level.

Teenage Years

Härmä was mercilessly recruited by teams across the Baltic region. He recieved offers to play in Finland, Latvia, Poland and Sweden. But Kristjan decided to stay at home. Jumping at the chance to play with his hometown HC Tallinn, Kristjan was ready to start on his path as a professional hockey player. At the ripe young age of 14, Kristjan was already a monster on the ice compared to the others in the league. He was a 14 year old playing with people in their 20s and making them look like children. He physical game suffered due to his size but much of the time the young winger couldn't even be touched by those on the ice with him. He would duck around and use his puck handling skills to set up wide open goals. His first year in the Meistriliiga was astonishing for a man so young. Scoring 70 points over 40 games as a 14 year old opened up the eyes of scouts all over the region and a few around the world. By his 2nd year in the league, the now 16 year old Kristjan, was scoring on a clip nearly on a different level than those around him. He scored 90 goals and had 24 assists in just 50 games and became the record holder for the most points in a season in the Meistriliiga - crushing the old record by 43 points. Kristjan had already cut the path of the best player in the history of the league and he was only 16 years old.

After his record breaking season with Tallinn HC, Kristjan was once again approached by Jokipojat of the Mestis Hockey League in Finland. While he had been playing for glory of Estonia and enjoyed showing his countrymen what he was capable of - Kristjan realized it was time to put himself on the world stage. At this point his younger brother Päävo had begun tearing up the Meistriliiga as a member of HC Viking Tallinn, the rival of HC Tallinn, and was making a name for himself and this made the decision easier for Kristjan. He inked a contract for one season with Jokipojat to play as their top line winger. Kristjan became an immediate success on the team. Becoming one of the leading scorers in the Mestis was easy for the young winger and he continued his domination from the Estonian league. While his numbers were not quite as impressive as they were while playing in the Meistriliiga - he still became a wunderkind.

The Future

Kristjan Härmä has spent the last few months deciding if he wanted to enter the VHLM and aim for a chance to play for one of the biggest leagues in the world with the VHL or settle for a quick buck in the SM-Liiga. After long interal debates, Kristjan decided the best course of action for him would be to join the VHLM and aim for a massive record setting career in the VHL. The ability to put Estonia on the map as a hockey nation would be a dream come true for the young sniper. With the right development and the concentration on his craft, Kristjan could become one of the greatest players to ever step on the ice in the VHL. But those are lofty for a young player getting ready to start on his path to the big time. Kristjan is focused on finding a team in the VHLM that will take his brand of hockey seriously. That won't believe the mistakes of a young man, with recent party accusations, will sway them from taking a chance on the talented young winger.

The sky is the limit for Kristjan Härmä. So which team will be the first to give the young Estonian his big break and begin him on the path to Greatest of All Time?
