Projected 1st Overall Selection in the Season 55 VHL Draft

Player Profile:

Felix Savard is considered a two-way defenseman who drives offense. Based on advance statistics all his defensive partners player better when paired with Savard. Savard currently is playing for the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM is scoring at a point per game rate. He is currently top ranked prospect in the upcoming VHL draft. If he continues to improve at the rate we expect he will surely be selected 1st overall. Savard strongest qualities are his skating, puck moving ability and his slap shot. The Las Vegas powerplay has greatly benefited from Savard's presence this season.

PROS+

Skating: Many people see a lot of Morgan Reilly in Savard's skating style he blows past forwards and opposing teams defenders. His first few steps are very strong and his explosiveness is off the charts. He's like a Connor McDavid on the blueline. The biggest factor in a player making in the VHL or not is their skating as almost all good players in the VHL have over 95 rated skating which should make Savard an attractive piece to any teams blueline.

Slap Shot: This one is a bit specific but we thought it necessary to include in this list. A lot of defenseman are considered to have "hard shots" but whether that shot is actually useful in the pro game is based on placement, vision, accuracy and the players IQ to know when is the right time to shoot and where to place it. Savard posses all these intangibles, many scouts are reminded of Nicklas Lidstrom when he takes a shot from the point. Quite often it's about pad high and is almost never blocked or misses the net.

Passing: If you've looked at the VHLM league statistics at all this season then you'd know that Savard has been top 5 in assists for quite some time. The majority of his points are coming as assists. If you've seen Savard play you'll notice his strong first pass exiting the zone as well as his strong ability to hold the blue line and find open forward below the hash marks or in front of the net.

CONS-

Checking: This one might surprise people as Savard is known for having a strong defensive game, which is why he is considered a two-way defenseman. When we say "checking" what we mean is his physical play at both ends of the rink. Despite his big frame he rarely uses his size and relies a lot on positioning and stick work, which may hurt his game at the VHL level. Some scouts would like to see more of that in his game before he can be considered a franchise defenseman.

Strength: This is tied directly into his checking because of his frame and weight his strength should not be an issue. Unfortunately it is, we've noticed quite a few times this season where Savard was muscled or rubbed off the puck in his own end which is not a great sign for such a highly touted defenseman. That has some scouts considered.

Leadership: This one is going to seem a bit harsh but when you're expected to go 1st overall you better be the complete package. Often this season Savard has been MIA in the locker  room and has been absent at all post game interviews. We expect more from a player who should be leading his team into the playoffs not hiding behind the shadows of veterans such as Vernon Von Axelberry.
