Take It On The Iron Side

Over the past little while, Toronto Legion goaltender Torstein Ironside has been picking up his game. Over the first part of the season, Ironside was very on and off in consistency. Hell, one might say he was...inconsistent. He would get killed in shots against the big teams and come out of them with a poor save percentage, then against easier teams he would have few shots against and more goals than you would expect. Sure, he would have some huge performances here and there, but they were scattered throughout poor play, and that is not what a GM expects of their star goalie.

In the last little stretch here, Torstein Ironside has had some big performances, however. Let's take a look at some of them now.

Game 199 vs. Riga Reign (1-0 Loss)

In just his most recent game, Torstein Ironside had a huge outing in net. The Reign out-shot the Legion 49 to 13, with a 22 to 4 shot ratio in the 3rd period alone. Needless to say, Ironside stood on his head in this game. Save after save, Torstein showed dominance throughout the game, keeping his team from being blown out. The game ended only 1-0 for Riga, with Ironside saving 48 of 49 shots. Ilya Kopralkov saved 13 of 13 in an easy night for him.

Game 192 vs. Riga Reign (2-0 Loss)

Again versus the Riga Reign, this game was once more pure dominance for Riga. Torstein Ironside saved as many as he could in this one, as Riga out-shot Toronto 46 to 24. Toronto had more shots than the other game against Riga, but still were not able to get past Ilya Kopralkov, who saved all 24. Torstein Ironside saved 44 of 46, giving him a 95.7% save percentage, but skated away with a 2-0 loss. He really padded his stats in these two games against the Reign.

In total across those two games, Torstein Ironside saved 92 of 95, giving him a save percentage of 96.8%. A little ridiculous for a rookie goaltender!

Game 184 vs. HC Davos Dynamo (3-2 SO Win)

In this game, Torstein Ironside was rewarded for his efforts. In a more even affair against a team more similar to the Legion, the shots between Davos and Toronto were 32 to 23 for the Legion. The first period went scoreless, but in the second, Roman Sokolov and TOR LW1 scored for Toronto. DAV C3 and Shawn Gretzky scored for Davos, and the period ended 2-2, which would hold all the way until the shootout. Torstein Ironside stopped Shawn Gretzky, Pablo, and Jack Kraken in the shootout, and Pavel Varushkin was able to get one by Mist4ke to win the game. Ironside saved 21 of 23, with a 91.3% in saves.

With these kinds of outings for Torstein Ironside, the Legion could likely expect him to be a star goaltender in the near future. I am sure his teammates Roman Sokolov and Jean-Claude Girard are hoping for just that. He surely would like to become a star.
