Claimed: 3rd Overall in S46

Recommended Posts

Sean Blacker was taken with the 3rd overall selection in the Season 46 VHL Entry Draft. He started out strong in the VHLM but somewhere along the line he just stopped practicing which is unfortunate for a player drafted so high. The agency was one that looked great at the time with his recent players going on to have great VHL careers. However in recent seasons, this agency has been known the disappear. VHL GM's though will always take a chance on his players though because of the maybe he will come back and make a player we all know he is capable of making. Hopefully that is soon because this generation of VHL members might now know was @frescoelmo is all about.

Season 44 - Saskatoon Wild

Regular Season:
S44 (SSK) - 21 GP | 2 G | 8 A | 10 P | +13 | 4 PIM | 12 H | 33 SH | 0 SB | 0 GWG

Playoffs:
S44 (SSK) - 9 GP | 1 G | 3 A | 4 P | +3 | 2 PIM | 4 H | 13 SH | 0 SB | 1 GWG

Sean Blacker started his career with the Saskatoon Wild as he was claimed off waivers by the team. He played in 21 regular season games scoring 2 goals and assisted on 8 goals for 10 points. It was a pretty nice start for the rookie who didn't have much time to get accustomed to life in the VHLM.

Season 45 - Bern Royals

Regular Season:
S45 (BER) - 72 GP | 36 G | 75 A | 111 P | +83 | 24 PIM | 77 H | 307 SH | 7 SB | 8 GWG

Playoffs:
S45 (BER) - 10 GP | 3 G | 3 A | 6 P | +4 | 6 H | 21 SH | 0 SB | 0 GWG

Coming into Season 45, Sean Blacker was drafted with the 9th overall selection to the Bern Royals. He played a big part to the teams turn around. Blacker scored 36 goals and assisted on 75 goals for 111 points. The Royals ended up finishing 2nd in the European Conference behind the Moscow Red Wolves. This meant they had to play the Oslo Storm who too had a very good season so after 6 hard fought games, the Royals came out on top. This meant the 'real' final  was going to happen in the Conference Finals between the Red Wolves and Royals. In a surprising turn of events the Red Wolves swept the Royals to move onto the final. Blacker had 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points. A decent season all around for Blacker but not the outcome he wanted.

Season 46 - Bern Royals

Regular Season:
S46 (BER) - 72 GP | 16 G | 26 G | 42 P | +34 | 16 PIM | 44 H | 126 SH | 5 SB | 2 GWG

Playoffs:
S46 (BER) - 11 GP | 2 G | 4 A | 6 P | 0 | 2 PIM | 5 H | 31 SH | 0 SB | 0 GWG

In Season 46, he was still playing in the VHLM when other top players from the Royals had moved on so many thought Blacker would make the team his own. It didn't exactly turn out that way as Blacker slumped to 16 goals and 26 assists for 42 points on the season. The Royals though, still had a very good season again finishing 2nd in the European Conference behind the Red Wolves once again. Bern would once again beat Oslo in 6 games making it back to back season the Conference Final between the Red Wolves and Royals. Like in Season 45, the Royals would end up losing in 5 games to Red Wolves making it back to back disappointing showing for Bern who went 1-8 against Moscow. Blacker scored 2 goals and assisted on 4 goals for 6 points which showed some depth but not something to brag about.

Season 47 - Saskatoon Wild

Regular Season:
S47 (BER/SSK) - 72 GP | 18 G | 20 A | 38 P | +32 | 2 PIM | 68 H | 161 SH | 2 SB | 6 GWG

Playoffs:
S47 (SSK) - 4 GP | 0 G | 0 A | 0 P | -4 | 8 PIM | 4 H | 7 SH | 0 SB | 0 GWG

Bern was in clear rebuild mode after a couple of disappointing ends to the last few seasons after back to back 100 point seasons for the Royals. This meant Blacker would be on the move and he wound up being traded back to where it started with the Saskatoon Wild. It was Sean Blacker & Vincent Virtanen to Saskatoon for Season 48 Bern 1st, Season 48 Bern 2nd and Season 49 Saskatoon 2nd. The 1st turned out to be 3rd overall which was flipped to Brampton who selected Titan Kronos, the 2nd was 11th overall and was used to select Kai Roberts and finally the S49 2nd was 13th overall and was used to select Nik Dufresne.

Blacker continued to slide a bit with 18 goals and 20 assists for 38 points. This makes the deal look pretty bad in hindsight but Virtanen was doing pretty good. The Wild would finish 3rd in the Conference which meant a 1st round date with the Yukon Rush who swept them. Blacker has 0 points in the sweep. Blacker doesn't seem to have much luck in the playoffs.

Season 48 - Saskatoon Wild

Regular Season:
S48 (SSK) - 72 GP | 53 G | 54 A | 107 P | +44 | 30 PIM | 66 H | 499 SH | 13 SB | 15 GWG

Playoffs:
S48 (SSK) - 9 GP | 5 G | 8 A | 13 P | +5 | 6 PIM | 2 H | 78 SH | 1 SB | 1 GWG

In Season 49, the trade really started to pay dividends as Sean Blacker led the team in scoring with 53 goals and 54 assists for 107 points. Pretty big turnaround from the last two seasons. The team finished 2nd in the Conference meaning the Brampton Blades would be the sacrificial lambs to the Wild. They would get swept out of the playoffs meaning 1 vs 2 in the Conference finals. Again though, sadly the Wild would lose in just 5 games ending Blacker's VHLM career with some terrible losses in playoff series. He did though try his best with 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points.

Season 49 - Seattle Bears

Regular Season:
S49 (SEA) - 72 GP | 5 G | 21 A | 26 P | +25 | 32 PIM | 44 H | 79 SH | 10 SB | 0 GWG

Playoffs:
N/A

Sean Blacker aged out of the VHLM meaning he was a VHL free agent and he decided to go to the Seattle Bears. In his rookie season with the Bears, he scored 5 goals and assisted on 21 goals for 26 points. Pretty decent rookie season on a team that was going into a rebuild all of a sudden. The team finished in the 4th spot in the Conference, missing the playoffs.

Season 50 - HC Davos Dynamo

Regular Season:
S50 (DAV) - 72 GP | 16 G | 23 A | 39 P | +1 | 34 PIM | 44 H | 237 SH | 12 SB | 5 GWG

Playoffs:
S50 (DAV) - 19 GP | 4 G | 5 A | 9 P | +6 | 10 PIM | 13 H | 48 SH | 4 SB | 0 GWG

Sean Blacker soon made the trek to Davos to play for the Dynamo. He proved as a solid depth piece as he set new career highs across the board with 16 goals and 23 assists for 39 points. The Dynamo finished 2nd in the Conference meaning they would have to play the Riga Reign in the opening round. After 6 games, the Dynamo would play the Express who finished 1st. The Dynamo would dispatch them in 6 games meaning they would make the finals against the Toronto Legion who were on the verge of a 3peat. After a 7 game series, the Legion had made history with the first ever threepeat. Blacker had a nice post-season with 4 goals and 5 assists for 9 points.

Season 51 - Toronto Legion

Regular Season:
S51 (DAV/QUE/TOR) - 71 GP | 22 G | 21 A | 41 P | +11 | 18 PIM | 65 H | 237 SH | 23 SB | 7 GWG

Playoffs:
S51 (TOR) - 18 GP | 0 G | 4 A | 4 P | +7 | 4 PIM | 11 H | 34 SH | 2 SB | 0 GWG

Not sure if Blacker ever as supposed to be in Davos but he was then he signed with Quebec before being traded to Toronto for a S53 4th round pick. The Season 53 draft never had a 4th round so the Legion basically just picked up Blacker for free. He rewarded them with another career high with 22 goals and 21 assists for 41 points. He played a depth role he is accustomed to playing in the playoffs with 4 assists for 4 points on the way to losing in the finals to Riga. The 4 peat was over for Toronto as was Blacker's time in Toronto.

Season 52 - Riga Reign

Regular Season:
S52 (RIG) - 68 GP | 14 G | 45 A | 59 P | +41 | 29 PIM | 79 H | 246 SH | 30 SB | 2 GWG

Playoffs:
S52 (RIG) - 10 GP | 1 G | 4 A | 5 P | -3 | 6 PIM | 10 H | 40 SH | 3 SB | 0 GWG

Sean Blacker would sign with the defending champions from Latvia in Season 52. He would put up another career high with 14 goals and 45 assists for 59 points. The team would make it to the finals against the New York Americans but would end up losing out to the team as the Reign simply had 0 depth. Black put up 5 points in 10 games.

Season 53 - Calgary Wranglers

Regular Season:
S53 (RIG/CAL) - 72 GP | 24 G | 26 A | 50 P | +1 | 23 PIM | 65 H | 238 SH | 45 SB | 6 GWG

Playoffs:
N/A

To end his career, Blacker was traded from the Reign to the Calgary Wranglers with Jory Rose and a Season 54 RIG 2nd for Apollo Aho and a S55 CGY 3rd. The Season S54 2nd turned out to be 13th overall and was used on Luca Volkov. Blacker scored 24 goals and assisted on 26 goals for 50 points to end his career.

S45 (BER) - 72 GP | 36 G | 75 A | 111 P | +83 | 24 PIM | 77 H | 307 SH | 7 SB | 8 GWG

There you have it, he has had a decent career, if he was drafted anywhere in the bottom half of the first round he would have been considered a decent pick but to go 3rd overall was a pretty bad misstep for the Toronto Legion.
