The New VHLM

Higgins

Recommended Posts

For Season 54 in the VHLM there will be a few changes to note.

1. Bratislava Watchmen franchise is folding effective immediately.

2. Brampton Blades franchise is folding effective immediately.

3. All 5 teams will make the playoffs. Best 2 of 3 game series between 4v5. Normal 4 of 7 game series for 1v4or5 and 2v3.

Franchise Folding Details

1. All draft picks the folded teams own for the S54 VHLM Draft will be passed.

2. Any team with a Bratislava/Brampton draft pick for S54, will have the pick take place as normal.

3. Any team with a Bratislava/Brampton draft pick for S55, will have the pick randomly assigned a number from 1 to 7 and take that draft slot.

4. Players on Bratislava or Brampton will be allowed to sign on any other VHLM team this off-season.

Therefore I present the new five team VHLM

Bratislava is being promoted to VHL I've heard. Helsinki is getting dumped and all their players auto-retired because they suck

@Higgins for point 4 I assume it is only for players who have already been drafted in the VHL previously? This does not include players who joined this season and were acquired by VHL teams on waivers/free agency like myself?

Yeah anyone that joined during the season and signed 1 season contracts will be in the VHLM draft as usual

For me the balance of this seems off. I know we never base this stuff on it, but obviously in the VHL we have 5 European teams and 5 NA teams. And while Canada is well represented among the NA teams, it's only by a single team more. Here we have a single European team, 3 Canadian Teams and 1 American team. Shouldn't it be 2 European, 2 Canadian and 1 American if we want to fit that balance?

I'm interested to see how having every team makes the playoffs look, but I have strong fears that we will eventually turn the VHLM Into a two team league, whether we reduce the number of teams or not. And at that point I'll bring it up again, just add a European and NA team from the VHLM to the VHL and let's form one stronger league. But I know I have to wait on that until we've literally exhausted every option available to restructure and save the VHLM. So I look forward to that time in another real life calendar year and some change.

Even still I hope that people who have been clamoring for these type of VHLM changes enjoy them. Obviously I'd actually like nothing better for this to all work out for the best, even if I have doubts that it will. I have to also applaud Higgins and the VHLM Commish team for keeping on this stuff, as you can't fault them for trying to make the VHLM the best it can be. Even if certain people base too much of their attachment to the league in general on a specific team, as cool as the Watchmen were @hedgehog337 :P

@Devise this isn't a real life league where logistics are important, but heck let's move Yukon to Anchorage.

Which brings up that I still have yet to finish my media spot on the unbalanced af VHLM schedule.

if you really put your mind to it and smoke a pile of reefer it can feel like a real life league

also don't be snoopin around my vhlm ottawa schedule riggery... you get too close i'll have to call maurice to take ya out

Obviously, and we never really have followed a set formula especially as it relates to like scheduling. I mean we have teams travelling to Europe and then back to Canada to play two games in a row in a span of a couple of days. But I do think people under estimate our member draw/retainment from having European teams. I'm not saying it's huge. But I still maintain there would be those more interested in playing in the league if we had a Russian team for example. Hockey as a sport is popular all over the place, the more open we are to catering to people across the world the better our odds of members imo.

That said yes, smoking reefer and thinking about the VHL too much as @Higgins says is exactly how you take this place too seriously. Trust me, I can attest to this very fact. :P

Oh don't get me wrong I don't care for the travel. You have no idea what I'm talking about yet.
