7TPE as STZ is on free week mode. For Ilya. This is old since I wrote it for the beginning of the week then sat on it until tonight. Bear with me.

Rough start…
The 52nd season of the VHL in underway, but not without some controversy. With a slowed down off-season due to various reasons, it was decided at some point that the usual pre-season would be skipped in favour of getting the season started. This however means that general managers were not able to send in lines for the first sim and this resulted in some very strange results. This caused an uproar throughout the forums and ended up causing a re-sim for the first set of games of the season. It seems unlikely that the league will be restarting the season all together now, but it brings up the question of bringing back the pre-season in future seasons to make sure there are no errors going forward. Another issue was that updated attributes weren’t even ready for the season, meaning that players won’t be able to produce points or stats how they expected to. Fortunately, it seems everything is evening out now. However, it’s still possible that some things may have been missed, so make sure to check your attributes and general managers should focus on getting in their lines if they have not already at this point.

North American Showdown…
It’s clear as day to anyone in the league right now that the North American conference is the place to be. With most of the free agents signing with teams in North America and seemingly all trades going the way of the squads there, there’s going to be way too much talent in one conference. Just which team ends up making the post-season from all of the strong teams in North America is totally up in the air as each of the teams have a strong point and something that is holding them back. Toronto has a stacked star squad, but zero depth. New York has a strong forward core, but not the most impressive defense and goaltender. Seattle is arguably the most even squad, but has no real stars. Same with Quebec City. Then of course, Calgary is essentially rolling with the same squad they had last season, with some very minor changes. The one thing that seems for certain is the fact that the European conference will certainly be struggling to keep up with the NA conference. To start the season though, there were quite a few upsets with European teams putting up quite the fight. Keep an eye on the results to see how things pan out going forward!

Robot takeover…
While the entire league panics over the rough start, the VHL has something else to worry about: the robot takeover. Over Monday and Tuesday, Google bots seemingly popped up in the member base and posted some brainwashing topics in hopes of gaining some new followers. One has to wonder if successful, what will Google do with its new VHL army full of talented fantasy hockey leaguers? Really, they could do anything with us behind them! We here at the VHL Magazine propose a takeover of all the over sim leagues around the net, or possibly investing into a system where Magazine editors don’t run away for a week.
