The difference between the two conferences in the VHL has quickly turned into a pretty big gap. When you look at the record of the Cologne Express, their record is sitting at 8-6-2. Just that number will give you a hint into what North America looks like compared to Europe. If Cologne were in the North American Conference, they would not even be in a playoff spot, yet over in Europe they are 1st. If things keep going as they are, one thing is for certain: one team in North America is going to miss out on post-season action, despite having a good record. The Seattle Bears are standing pat with a record of 11-5-0, which would be better than the Cologne Express, but in North America that is out of a playoff spot in 4th place. They have more goals scored than any European team, and less goals against than any as well. The Seattle Bears will definitely not be happy if things continue to look this way. There is also the fact that the team suffering most in the VHL is from the North American Conference, and that is the Calgary Wranglers. They are 2-13-1, with a -50 goal differential and only 5 points. On top of that, the second best team in Europe has a negative record of 5-8-3, being HC Davos Dynamo. ------------------------ Jorma Ruutu can taste that puck ------------------------ Moving on to more important matters, I will look at what is causing all of this raucous in the VHL. There are two obviously dominant teams in the league, and they are the Toronto Legion and the New York Americans. But who is better? Toronto is 15-1-0, and New York is 14-2-0. They both are equal in goals allowed with 29, and Toronto only holds a 2 goal difference in goals scored with 68 to New York's 66. The funny thing is, Quebec City and Seattle are not far behind them. Any kind of losing or winning streak, and the standings will change. The top ten players in the VHL in scoring are also all from either Toronto, New York, or Quebec City. Toronto is being led by Max Molholt, who leads the whole VHL with 43 points, including his 15 goals. The second place scorer is New York's Jorma Ruutu, who has 40 points with 19 goals, which is the most goals in the league. Then, Quebec City's newcomer, Alexei Koponen is leading their team with 35 points. All of these numbers are only with 16 games played. The top players in the VHL are all littered with North American players, and it will be interesting to see what comes of it. ------------------------- Tom Lincoln isn't that bad ------------------------- 11th overall in the VHL is none other than Cologne's Phil Hamilton, who is just coming over to that team himself. He is the European Conference's best player, with Sir Wililam Covington III behind him with 20 points. North American players are also leading in most of the individual categories right now as well. The notable European leaders are Davos player Patrick Demko's league leading 47 shots blocked, and Davos' Kai Roberts is leading all rookies. To end this article....I will say: Damn, North America.
