GM Steve Smeall met with the press early Sunday morning to discuss Riga’s chances going into the playoffs with a few games left in the season.

“Well, first of all,” said Smeall. “We are just over-joyed that there is no chance that Davos will be joining us in the first round again this time. That team caused me more headaches than anything else in this league and I would not have stood for another sweep out of the first round. Thankfully, Davos decided to go for the ol’ head start to the rebuild there, giving us one last run at this playoffs thing.”

“It seems like we’ll be taking on the Vikings one way or another, and that presents us with a new challenge. We haven’t had the best season by any means, but as long as you make it to the post-season, that’s all the really matters in the end. We’ll give Stockholm everything we’ve got and give the fans something to be proud of this time around.”

It’s highly speculated that following the playoffs the team will go into rebuild mode with most of the players set to retire in the off-season. Will Riga be able to start an effective rebuild without getting anything in return for majority of its core though? Probably not.
