1. Download the MyFitnessPal app. It makes watching your calorie intake infinitely easier. For the longest time I could never figure out why I couldn't gain weight even though I generally eat a shit-ton every meal I eat. The answer was because A. I'm pretty tall and therefore have to eat A LOT, B. I often slept through/skipped breakfast, and C. I actually had no idea how many calories I was actually taking in in a day. It was quite a bit less than I thought. I personally need to eat 3000+ calories a day to start reaching my goal weight, and I wasn't/don't hit that nearly as often as I thought.

I had/have pretty much the same problem

I started tracking what i was eating and I found even on days where it felt like i was eating a boat load, I was still running a pretty big deficit. Breakfast was and still is a pain in the ass for me because when I don't sleep through it I usually just don't feel like making it. More of a rot my empty stomach out with coffee kind of guy I suppose.

Still working on it but I suck at both planning meals and grocery shopping so it's a struggle.

Another thing I didn't see mentioned in here yet is eating less, more frequently. You want to eat to keep your metabolism going. And eat as soon as you get up to start your metabolism.

I lost about 6 pounds in a week just by doing that. I was already pescatarian (only eat vegetables and fish/seafood) but I would get hungry at work and immediately go get chips or cookies. I started packing granola bars or light string cheese in my lunches so I'd have a healthy alternative every 2.5 hours or so.

also, I get sick of water so I like to switch between water and tea, no sweetener or Splenda if I need it.

good luck though in your weight loss

Absolutely. You're body has been fasting and recharging over night in a low-metabolic state. Once your up, your expending way more energy and if your body has no fuel in it to use, it's going to start breaking down proteins to fuel itself. If you want to get your energy levels up and put yourself in a great position for a terrific day, eat soon after waking up!

- mush a banana into paste in a bowl

- put two eggs in (or egg whites for more healthiness)

- 1/2 tsp of baking soda

- .1/2 tsp of cinnamon

- 1 scoop of chocolate protein powder

- mix together, heat up a pan, coat with a thin layer of butter, pour some batter in, cook for a bit, then broil or flip it.

- top it off with some plain yogurt and fresh raspberries... OH MAN it's so good.

IDK if this has been said but try to go to the gym as soon as you wake. If you are hungry eat a small snack or something but working out on an empty stomach and then eating lots after is good from what I have heard.

Not so much eating lots, but eating right. People confuse the two. Don't go to the gym in the morning on an empty stomach and then binge eat carbs. Wake up, eat some almonds on the way to the gym. Do your workout and then come home and eat salmon for lunch or something.

I get that you may have meant that, but by just saying eating tons people could just think it means binge eating carbs. Specifying in this case is probably for the best, considering guys have mentioned they want to cut some weight.

Also, I know he's infamous on 4chan and whatever but I swear by the advice scooby1961 gives. Check out his YouTube channel and website, there's a load of really helpful stuff on nutrition and fitness in general, whatever you're trying to achieve. Before I started going to the gym I used the home workouts he does and they're honestly great

Sadly morning gym sessions are not often an option for me given my very early in the morning classes...but anyways.

Went Monday and my arms are killing me (partially cause I slept on my right arm awkwardly last night).  Tuesday  is my day off cause I have like 11 hours of class but I'll be back at it Wednesday after I finish my classes.

Good point you brought up. Sleeping patterns are huge for breaking out of funks. If anyone is having tiredness feelings, try sleeping with a pillow between your knees (if you sleep on the side). It opens up your airways.

Anyway, I'm in a different position in my fitness goals so I don't go out of my way do cardio or anything, so I can't speak to how often one should do cardio. But depending on your workout plan, you don't need to/shouldn't work out everyday. Specifically, you shouldn't kill your, say, chest and leg muscles one day, and then kill them again the next day. If you're working out specific areas of your body each day, and rotating throughout the week, then consecutive gym days is doable, but even so I wouldn't necessarily go more than 5 times a week. Your muscles need time to recover and rebuild. And as I mentioned, I can't speak to how this would apply to a hard cardio workout, or even medium cardio workouts.

But yeah, it's good you're in a lot of pain right now, because you like that, don't you you dirty slut? But as long as your consistent with your exercises, you shouldn't again be as sore as you will be on your first workout. When I joined my gym in September/October, I hadn't been to the gym in ~half a year. I went to an hour long full body pump class (called BodyPump). My legs were pure lead, I could barely lift my arms above my shoulders for two days, never mind go to the gym to lift more weights. I was still feeling it later throughout the week, but when I went back and did the same class a few days later, I wasn't nearly as sore (I kept the same weight, even added some at times). So as far as I know, the worst for soreness should be done.

And for an extra, I may as well share my "motivational" anecdote/situation. This would be regarding temporarily falling out of routine. I was going to the gym 3-4 times a week for a while now. I was at the gym with a buddy last Monday, and we had plans to go again on Wednesday, and then wings with friends that evening for another friend's birthday. However, I received a call from a friend on Tuesday morning saying she could line up a job for me for a month. So that day I had an interview, and the following day I had training when I was supposed to be at the gym. Thursday I was up early and out of town working, and suddenly I'm in a hotel for a month, working from 7am-7pm everyday. After showering and eating supper, it doesn't leave a lot of extra time for things I'd normally like to do.

So life happened and I was unavoidably shook out of my routine. But the hotel has a fitness center, and we changed our hours to 6:30am-6:30pm, so I think I was finally able to hit it up on like, Saturday. And even then, it was just a short 30 minute thing to get back into the swing of things. But I think that's the key. If I would have been set on doing my full one hour exercise, I probably wouldn't have wanted to go. So now I'm back to going every other day, and staying a little longer every time.

So I guess the moral of the story is, if shit happens and you fall off the wagon, don't be afraid to consciously decide to dial it back a bit so you can get back on. As I mentioned earlier, for me getting into the routine and mindset of wanting to exercise (i.e. motivation) is the biggest thing for me. And keep focused on your goals. I personally want to tone myself considerably and be healthier and make people jealous. The thought of one day achieving that pleases me.
