The VHLM: Contraction

From it's inception up until S31, the VHL operated with 8 teams. In S31, the league expanded to add 2 two teams, one per conference. With it, the VHLM also expanded in this fashion. It is now S42, and the general consensus is that the expansion worked wonderfully for the VHL. For the VHLM, however, that opinion is not shared.

The issues with the VHLM as far as expansion goes are this: The influx of players to the VHLM is simply not high enough to sustain 10 teams. Players are spread out too thinly among the teams, leading to small rosters and therefore less locker room activity. Too often, we see teams that have only a few or even no active players. The result of having players so segregated with little activity is us losing members due to a lack of engagement. This is of course very unfortunate and should be rectified.

As of the conclusion of the S42 Playoffs, two VHLM teams will cease to exist. Although it might be assumable that the two expansion teams would be the ones to get dropped, that won't be the case. In the past 10 seasons, the Founder's Cup was won by one of the two expansion teams 7 times. Instead of removing teams that have been wildly successful in recent history, we have decided to drop two of the worst performing and overall unpopular teams in the league: the Turku Outlaws and the Minot Gladiators.

:min: Minot Gladiators  :min:

Last cup win: Season 19

Minot hasn't been victorious since Season 19, they are a generally disrespected team, and they are definitely the most out of place location in the Conference.

:tur: Turku Outlaws   :tur:

Last cup win: Season 30 (as the Kolari Panthers)

Turku was a tougher decision. Although Turku has been bad, they have been no worse than the Moscow Red Wolves (formerly Vasteras IK J20). Ultimately it came down to the fact that we already have Helsinki representing Finland in the league, whereas we have no other Russian teams.

General Manager's

Mr. Jones and iRockstar are the incumbent GMs of Turku and Minot, respectively. The decision to axe these two teams is not reflectant upon their tenure. They have both done good work and it's truly unfortunate that this announcement will have such an impact on them.

The VHLM Commissioners have decided to guarantee these two GMs the next available teams. One team, Ottawa, is being managed by sterling until the end of this season, at which point it will be passed on to one of the above GMs.

Draft Implications

This is an ideal time to contract these two teams because they each will have very few active players remaining on their rosters at the end of the season. These few players will be added to the S43 VHLM Dispersal Draft.

The MIN or TUR draft picks that teams other than Minot or Turku are in possession of will remain in the position they would normally be in as a result of S42 standings. Fortunately, neither team has trade any S44 picks. Draft picks that belong to Minot or Turku will cease to exist.

Sim Implications

A separate announcement relating to what effect this contraction will have on the sim will be made in the near future.

TL;DR Version

- VHLM Contracting to 8 Teams

- Minot and Turku being contracted

- GMs will be guaranteed the next available teams

- Minot and Turku's draft picks will be burned, picks they have traded will remain in those position

- Announcement on how this will effect the sim to be made soon

Hmmm, how are they going to work this out sim wise. I thought all farm teams had to play unless we are using a separate sim client now?

You live under a rock Fong. They are using a separate I'm file.

Panthers are going, my baby :(

Its not like it was announced somewhere else that was for sure what they were doing. I like having confirmations and not just here say :P

But that would work, though is there going to be another simmer then? Or we making Jardy sim two diff clients a day :P

Actually nobody decided we were using a separate file. If we knew what we were doing with the sim, we would have announced it. Jardy is handling it and we'll announce it when we can.
