  1. In this piece we're going to take a look at a player or two at each position that is draft eligible in the VHLM this season. We will dive into how their season is going and where they might be projected to go in the coming draft. The first centre we're going to talk about is most recent first overall pick in VHLM dispersal draft. Antonia Bucatini standing at 5'11" and 177 pounds is playing for the struggling Halifax 21st but has managed to put up good offensive numbers so far. She has scored three goals and added 5 helpers in 8 games played on a weak Halifax squad. She is an Elite offensive centre and as such she will be coveted at the draft. She is a volume shooter at the time of writing this she is leading the league in shots at 59 so once she raises that shooting percentage of 5.08% you can expect that goal total to jump significantly. Not just an offensive threat she is a great Faceoff taker and has solid defensive instincts, however just looking at the numbers she has a +/- of -12 which is presently tied for worst in the league. Some think that this is a side effect of being overplayed she is averaging 30.55 minutes per game which puts in the top of the league for ice time. Even with the lower point and goal totals than expected we believe she is likely to go first in the upcoming draft once again, teams will likely see that this is just a tough season on a Halifax team that is missing a lot of pieces. up next at centre we have Walter Jinn of the Philadelphia Reapers Walter Jinn who is a diminutive 5'7" 140 pounds was taken with the sixth overall pick in the VHLM dispersal Draft. He is a faceoff monster he is tenacious and gets down low to win draws quickly and efficiently which is always wanted at his position. He is an offensive powerhouse in his own right and is enjoying a quality season in Philidelphia scoring 5 goals and 4 apples in the early parts of this young season. His shot and pass are both excellent options when bringing the puck in off the rush and he looks to make use of both of them equally. He is defensively sound and can counted on when it matters most in a game. Teams looking to add an offensive centre who wins draws and won't hurt their defensive game might regret skipping on this young star in the making. We project that Walter Jinn will go near the end of the first or early on in the second round of the upcoming draft. Maybe we could see a team trade up to get this young man and he could be the steal of the draft at that ranking. Next we have a couple of left wingers to take a look at and they both hail from the same team the Saskatoon Wild. First of the two is as of writing this article the leading scorer of the VHLM: Forum Content. Forum Content was taken tenth overall in the dispersal draft and is looking like a slam dunk by Saskatoon he is a big playmaking winger with silky soft hands he stands at 6'2" and 220 pounds. For a big guy he is an elite skater and puck handler with great vision and passing ability, this has allowed him to have incredible success so far this season scoring 3 goals and adding an incredible 16 assists just 8 games into the season. The only thing scouts have complaints about is his defensive game and lack of strength. His shooting ability although not weak is not exactly up there with the rest of the league and defenders are going to start defending passes more so we'd like to see his shot progress to make the defenders pay for cheating pass. Projecting where Content will go in the draft is interesting as I think a lot of teams might be more interested in defense and centres but I still have a hard time seeing forum drop out of the first round, it is likely we see a team grab him in the mid to late first round. The second Saskatoon Wild player we're looking at is UghSike who is another big forward at 6'2" and 210 pounds he actually fits a similar mold to Forum Content as a playmaking winger. Being a few years younger than the aforementioned player he has more stuff to work on, however his wrist and slap shots are quite impressive. UghSike has put up 4 goals and 1 helper so far in more limited playing time averaging just 17.42 minutes a game. His great wrist shot makes him a great choice in shootout situations and has the looks of what could be a prolific scorer with the amount of effort he puts into his training. If i were to look at an area of his game that could be improved it would be his puck handling and it never hurts to improve your defensive acumen. This young man has decent skating for a man his size and is stronger than our previous prospect all of this info leads us to believe teams at the next level will be watching him closely. We believe that UghSike will go somewhere in the 2nd round probably in the middle to later picks, but we would bet on him being a solid offensive contributor at the next level when the time comes. Up next we have a pair of right wingers that deserve a quality look, starting with Houston Bulls star forward Trimiskev Artav. Trimiskev Artav was an absolute steal for Houston at pick 18 in the second round of the VHLM dispersal draft. Artav is a 6'0" 205 pound forward and he has had a solid showing for his team scoring 5 goals and adding 5 assists he is currently shooting 16.67% and some question whether that number is sustainable, but if you ask around Houston every is fully bought in on Artav. He has elite offensive vision maybe the best in the league he see's the play in the attacking zone very well and makes quality shots and passes, on top of that he has strong skating and elite deking allowing him to get into open spaces to pass or shoot making him a difficult player to defend. He is a solid player without the puck too and doesn't miss his defensive coverage, the one thing missing from his game is strength but with how shifty he is with the puck this isn't a big deal. Any team looking for an offensive dynamo up front on the right would be crazy to pass on this player, I think he'll go in the middle of the first round but we could see him drop if teams in that area are looking for a different position. Next we're looking Miami Marauders right winger Leon Bruhmaninho. Leon is a young player with lots of room to grow and he is making a big impact for Miami despite his young age. The 6'3" 171 pound winger has scored 4 goals and added 9 assists for the wagon that is the Miami squad. out of all the players on our list this player has the most room for improvement but early season success makes us believe in his future growth. Leon has soft hands that allow him to handle the puck in tight spaces and with his long reach he has even more options. He seems to primarily focus on growing his offensive talents at a balanced rate and for the most part doesn't have an elite aspect to his game as of yet. He has paid little attention to the defensive aspects, that being said he is the best player in terms of +/- on this list today with a +9. But they say offense is the best defense so maybe he has it all figured out. But a lot of scouts have said they'd like to see this area of his game grow before he makes the leap to the next level. Leon is absolutely a player to keep an eye on this year as the Marauders look to compete to win it all this year. We think Bruhmaninho is likely to go at the end of the 2nd or early 3rd round at this years draft maybe earlier if he continues his stellar offensive campaign. Next up we have a pair of promising rear guards to look at. for the Houston Bulls we have Lucy Leitner a bit on the smaller side at 5'8" and just 155 pounds but this player fits the mold for talented puck moving defenseman. She has solid stick handling skills coupled with strong skating making her someone you want to have the puck on their stick as much as possible. her defensive coverage and offensive vision are both good making her an adept defender and great passer and powerplay quarterback. Leitner as of writing has 1 goal and 11 assists early in the season making her not only one of the top scoring defenseman in the league but a top skater in general as well. She shows great promise and dedication to her craft and seems to get better every time we see her play. We think that this is going to be one of the players picked at the top of the draft this year more than likely a top 5 pick if you ask me. Don't be surprised if you see Houston make some noise this year and Lucy leading the way. The next defenseman is a stalwart defender and prides himself on his defensive play, it's Mexico Kings rear guard Chuck E Cheese. Chuck E Cheese stands at 5'10" 160 pounds but has the best poke check in the league hands down, his defense is second to none and in a league full of players looking to stand out on offense it makes him stand out more. Mexico chose him 9th overall in the dispersal draft in order to solidify the teams defense. Not only that even at age 50 this ageless wonder has put up 2 goals and 3 assists for 5 points so far so even adding some offense for the Kings. The question is will teams look at his age and wonder how long he can keep up with the younger generation, I think there will be teams who aren't frightened by this and want to pick up a quality defenseman and we seem go somewhere in the 1st round at the draft this year. And now at last onto the last line of defense, every teams guardian angels the goaltenders. Up first we have the mouthful to say Aleksanteri Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen another member of the Mexico Kings. Aleksanteri is a little short for a goalie in this day and age but has the heart and reflexes to more than make up for his lack in size at 5'9" and 222 pounds. He was drafted 2nd overall in the dispersion draft and is the top Goalie not in a VHL teams system playing in the VHLM this year. He currently has a record of 5-2-1 with a save percentage of 0.907 and a GAA of 2.57 I'm sure if you asked him he'd say he expects more out of himself and we wouldn't be surprised if those number improve as the season goes on. Any team needing a goaltender in the system should be giving this young Finn a good hard look and I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the top 5 of the draft, as every team needs a quality tendie in the system. And now for the final player of our list goaltender for the Philadelphia Reapers Jorgen Lovstrom. Jorgen Lovstrom stands at 6'0" and 180 pounds and he has become Philadelphia's favorite son so far this season. Jorgen holds a 5-1-0 record with a sparkling 0.924 save percentage and an elite 2.14 GAA, he wasn't available at the dispersal draft and was a solid waiver pickup by the Reapers. Can he maintain these stellar numbers all year or will the rubber begin to find it's way behind him with more regularity in the coming weeks. Philadelphia is pinning their hopes of a solid season on their young star netminder, and VHL teams are standing up and taking notice of what this young man is capable of if a team needs a goalie I wouldn't be surprised by a late first round pick of Jorgen Lovstrom or early second. Either way he'll make a great prospect for one lucky team. and that has been a list of 10 up and comers playing their hearts out in a competitive and exciting VHLM season this year will leagues current top players continue to dominate, or will some dark horses rise from obscurity and make the VHL look at them. We and hockey fans everywhere can't wait to see how this season continues to play out. For VHL.com this has been Jim Hotdog This post is 2194 words and will be used as media spot for weeks ending Jan 21, Jan 28, Feb 4th, and Feb 11th.
  2. PLAYER MENTOR DIDIER VERHAULT You would be right to call Didier Verhault a late bloomer in terms of prospects, likely the largest reason for his slide and relative outright exclusion from prospect rankings. Recently Verhault has signed an entry-level contract midseason with the Mexico City Kings, taking his first steps into the Victory Hockey League systems. Quoting Didier himself he is "excited for this new chapter in his career, and anticipates a long journey with the League" This is not to say that Didier has no connections or relations to the Victory Hockey League. As recent as a year ago he was taken as a pupil to the retired Defenseman Shaggy Tipton, who Didier would style much of his game and playing style after Tipton's own. Tipton had a short, but respectable career in both the Victory Hockey League Minors and the Victory Hockey League. Tipton himself had a decorated career, winning both the Ryan Sullivan Award and Jake Thunder Award for his individual awards, and capitalizing his career with the Founder's Cup in the Victory Hockey League minors. These would be the spotlight of Didier's mentor though, as injuries shortened his career. Didier has spoken up out of respect to his mentor, recognizing his awards, but also announcing that he plans for his career to outlast Tipton's, and aspires to become more than just a flash-in-the-pan Minor League player and fringe Major Leaguer. Verhault's game has been modeled closely to Tipton's, placing an emphasis on defensive competence with matching offensive capability. Headlined by these skills are Verhault's notable checking skills, with body his body and his stick. Didier's passing skills and offensive zone awareness are also very noticeable in games, as he rarely seems to disappear on either side of the ice. At first the main conflict of Tipton being Didier's mentor had been his language block, only being able to speak Belgian and some Dutch. After months of attending on ice training with Tipton, Didier would slowly gain the ability to speak English. Signing in Mexico City, Didier was asked in a report about the language barrier between him and Mexico City's staff, answering "Thankfully most players can speak English, I can barely order food in Spanish,".
  3. Welcome to yet another edition of Future Watch! I’m Head Scout Matty Ice. I’ve taken over my fellow contributor (Patrik Tallinder)’s series, and I went in another direction. Quotes from every VHL GM sure add to the depth of the article and it has been such a pleasure to deal with all of them. Thank you VHL GMs for taking the time! Let’s get right to it! CALGARY WRANGLERS Calgary was already a young team entering their prime, but with some roster movement and TWELVE selections in the s74 draft, they now have a very deep pool of prospects. Among those selected on Calgary’s roster, Luke Thornton and Jonas Stormsson have big shoes to fill. Three VHLM prospects stand out, namely Las Vegas Aces’ Gary Rush, Miami’s Eoin Byrne and Mississauga goaltender Vsevolod Akarov. Quote from GM Ryan Jubis: Calgary had only one prospect before the S74 draft. Gary Rush, who’s a great prospect that’s close to moving up to the VHL, chose to play one more season in the VHLM. After a few trades before and during the draft, Calgary ended up with 12 picks. Two of those picks are already playing in the VHL this season and making an impact. 2 more prospects will make the jump next season. Calgary now has a plethora of prospect goalies. As the GM I saw value in having other goalies in the system behind Lafontaine. As these goalies grow and continue to mature if the opportunity is not here for them, I will not hold any of these players hostage. If they wish to look for full-time roles I will be here to help them accomplish that. If one of them wants to work their way into VHL backup for a season. We can do that as well. Overall I am very happy to have such a stacked prospect pool. The Wranglers' future is bright. With tons of prospect depth and only two selections without a contract, they have many future assets that they can rely on to either trade for a missing piece or graduate into the Calgary system Top Prospects: Luke Thornton, Gary Rush, Jonas Stormsson, Eoin Byrne, Vsevolod Askarov Prospect Grade: A- @Jubis @Jtv123 @G_Rush @Kyle @LatinViking @Gooningitup CHICAGO PHOENIX This young team fresh off their inaugural season, had seven draft selections in S74. VHL rookies Christian Mingle and Lee Xin headline this prospect pool at the center and winger positions respectively. Virtually all prospects have a shot at graduating into the Phoenix lineup at some point. Winger Kasey Tamm playing for Halifax has the greatest chance of playing for the team next season, with goalie Kloxified eyeing the backup goaltender role and players like Roseann Petal and Darius Marimoto filling in depth roles. Quote from General Manager Jeff Dee: We had the second overall selection at the S74 Draft. We had some big moves to make to further the development of the team. At second overall we grabbed Christian Mingle, who I think could have very easily gone first overall. He has immediately slotted in on the big squad and has been having a good season so far. Lee Xin has been amazing so far and has not only been performing very well on the ice but is a great locker room presence. At 21st overall we managed to grab Kasey Tamm who I believe has the potential to be a star in the VHL. He is spending this season developing with the Halifax 21st this season but we have big plans for him going forward from next year. Kloxified is also spending this season developing with the Yukon Rush, whom he also played for last season in the VHLM. He should make the hop to the VHL next year where he will likely start as a backup to JP Camus. After Kloxified we managed to select the player I think may end up being the steal of the S74 draft and that is Darius Marimoto. Marimoto immediately hopped into our locker room after being selected and is now running our team's social media accounts. He is constantly in the practice facility and I believe he will quickly become a well known player around the league. While he is spending this season in the VHLM, I fully expect him in the VHL next season. Last and certainly not least is Yuuto Kira Cloudera who is a defenseman currently enjoying their second season with Minnesota in the VHLM and who I think can have a solid career moving forward. Top Prospects: Christian Mingle, Lee Xin, Kasey Tamm, Matty Socks Prospect Grade: A- @Quik @Blazzer @kesytamm @fishy @solas @dariusmarimotoman @kentakira @JeffD D.C. DRAGONS This aging team will have many positions to fill by Season 76’s end. Having had three selections in the S74 draft, two prospects stand out. Ottawa Lynx defenseman Jackson Philliefan and Yukon Rush centerman Alec Andreshnikov eye open spots in the near future. Defenseman Rick Osman is considered to be a more long-term project that may fill a depth role someday. Quote from General Manager Eno Rama: I'm hoping that as long as we have Wolski in net, we'll be able to field a competitive roster. As our core ages out, we should be able to replenish it through trades and drafting and while our pipeline isn't full of blue chip talent right now, I'm confident they can be solid complementary pieces on a cup-winning roster. The aging Dragons blue line will be in dire need for skilled defensemen to replace the retiring Lance Flowers, Luciano Valentino and Ricky Johnson to keep up with the rest of the league. Hopefully their drafted defensemen can step up and maintain the Dragons' compete level. Top Prospects: Jackson Philliefan, Alec Andreshnikov Prospect Grade: B- @Enorama @Philliefan @PuckPushers @dylanjj37 HC DAVOS DYNAMO This is still a very young team with a deep, but porous prospect pool. They have no real immediate need to replace any player at any position, besides newly-acquired free agent and legendary goaltender Rayz Funk, who will be retiring at Season 74’s end. With Joakim Bruden next in line to be Davos’ starter, there are no depth issues with the Dynamo. Many of their prospects have gone inactive and/or are without a team or contract. Two prospects of note are D-man Shawty Nananana and winger Vlad Imir, playing for Halifax and Yukon respectively. Their development has been steady and on pace to hit the VHL ranks as soon as next season. Quote from General Manager Jerry Garcia: Davos is still a fairly young team, but we've got the prospects to keep us going for some time in the future. The eventual replacement for one of our S69 defenders is Shawty Nananana, a second-round pick this season who will be up in S75 after one season down. One of last season's thirds, Vlad Imir, is also set to make the jump, and I'm hoping he'll keep up the earning and fulfill his current projection as a long-term second-line player. On top of that, two guys I'm really excited about are Jim Allen and Piero Angela, fourth-round selections this season who are active and have the ability to make it up in a season or two. Top Prospects: Shawty Nananana, Vlad Imir Prospect Grade: C @Grape @Big Dee @jimmyallen93 @Minermonkey @GustavMattias HELSINKI TITANS Having selected four defensemen in the S74 draft and all active defensemen having ending contracts at the end of the season, Helsinki has a deep enough pool of defensemen to fill their shoes if they want to. Two defenders from Halifax, Gabriel Akerstrom and Kate Upton, come to mind when having options at the blue line. Las Vegas defender Chase Crosby can be a surprise selection if he continues to remain active. S73 draftees Patrik Laine and Oh Sens have made their rookie debuts in support roles, but may move up to top line roles if their development continues. Quote from General Manager Juliann Borwinn: The S74 VHL entry draft held just over a week ago saw many promising players find new homes in the VHL. Helsinki's playbook was quickly realized by onlookers as they took to the podium announcing only defenseman in their draft positions. With a plethora of forwards and young goaltenders to shore up the future, the Titans looked at their depth chart and focused solely on what was needed for seasons to come. While having a strong defensive core, Helsinki had no D prospects to speak of and hoped to have addressed their future needs. While still early, Gabriel Akerstrom looks poised to make the jump next season, while Upton and Crosby continue to excel in the VHLM. Buckfast has yet to report but the Titans are hopeful he will make a return. Top Prospects: Gabriel Akerstrom, Patrik Laine, Oh Sens Prospect Grade: B+ @Jubo07 @osens @PatrikLaine @Mason @OscarTheSwagDude @AnthonyOuellet LONDON UNITED The young franchise definitely used their three first round selections to pick top-quality prospects in Ryan Schwarz and Julian Nousiainen, who have made their rookie debuts alongside s73 draftee Alec Volchenkov and have kept pace without much extra effort. Their third first rounder, defenseman Kasper Kankkunen, elected to remain in the VHLM’s Las Vegas Aces for one more season for some refinement to his game, despite the glaring hole at the defense position. Goaltender Kevin Malone is also poised to challenge for the United’s starting goalie role, with forward Maxim Yakolevsky and defenseman Tee Pee E II being considered longer-term projects. Quote from General Manager Roger McWolf: We only had two seasons to build our prospect pool, but I'm proud of the players we got. Malone and Kankkunen are the highlights (of the recent draftees still playing in the VHLM). They're set to start with us next season, and they'll bring much needed support at our two weakest positions. Top Prospects: Ryan Schwarz, Julian Nousiainen, Kasper Kankkunen, Kevin Malone Prospect Grade: A @McWolf @Enorama @okochastar @ZP16 @chatfan036 @Goliathus @Nepto @SirRupertBarnes LOS ANGELES STARS Los Angeles loaded up on prospects in the S73 entry draft. Having had only two picks in the S74 Draft, both making their rookie debuts with the big club, defenseman Lester Green and Doug Dimmadome are both quality players. These two players alone have the potential to completely transform the defense and puck-stopping ability into an impregnable fortress down the road. The only worthy player still in the VHLM is Las Vegas Aces goaltender Drew Minott. Quote from General Manager Josh Da Silva: Coming up in the defense pipeline we have Gumballs, Green, and Keef and all three are in their rookie season. I see Gumballs and Green manning the first pairing for the next few seasons. They're playing well together and are both strong defensive players. Keef's development is going to take a little longer but I believe he'll be an impact player in a couple of seasons. Lastly but certainly not least, Doug Dimmadome, owner of the Dimmsdale Dimmadome, is our rookie goaltender this season. The best player available to us in the draft and shaping up to be one of the best starting goalies in the league. Hoping he stays with us long term with that guaranteed starter spot. Nearly all of their draft selections are VHL caliber players, however their prospect pipeline at skating positions is seriously lacking. Top Prospects: Lester Green, Doug Dimmadome, Jiggly Gumballs Prospect Grade: B+ @Josh @JigglyGumballs @Esso2264 @DreMin15 @Smarch @RStar MALMO NIGHTHAWKS This is still quite a young team. Having only one selection from the S74 draft class, Philadelphia Reapers winger Carson Walkers, they don’t really have any urgent need to fill their pipeline. With superstar defenseman Condor Adrienne retiring at the end of Season 75, there could be a gaping hole at defense. Perhaps in the next draft they select a star defenseman? With s73 defenseman Kirishima Wakaro making his rookie start, it fills the gap for now. Quote from General Manager John Frostbeard: Well, we have two players that are still playing in VHLM, Kevin Sterk and Carson Walkers. I think we are in a good spot considering that we already have a team ready to compete. That said, I strongly believe that any team should always have extra players ready to come up as that adds extra value to the overall team composition. Also, more people means that your LR is active and chatty. For now, Malmo’s prospect pool is severely lacking, but without a need at this current period, I don’t think it really matters. Top Prospect: Carson Walkers Prospect Grade: C- @FrostBeard @Snussu @Cwalker @TenZi MOSCOW MENACE Another young team to discuss here. With only two selections in the past draft, Moscow has enough depth to address any need. Season 74 draftees Alex Zouzouambe at wing and defenseman Breeze Ladrian joined Fat Palloon and Michael Hall to round out their prospect pipeline. With goaltender Raymond Bernard retiring at the end of season 75, Moscow should perhaps look to draft their replacement goalie in the upcoming draft. Quote from General Manager Victor Alfredsson: Our youth movement is coming to an end as most of our recent draftees have graduated but I'm happy to have 3 more exciting prospects in the pipeline, all of whom I believe will have a role to play in Moscow in the future. I suspect Palloon and Zouzouambe will be ready to step up to the VHL next season, just in time to replace some retirees both up front and on defence. Ladrian is a more long-term project but I'm hopeful he will follow in the tradition of other Moscow steals like Clarke, Telker, and Angellini and make an impact for us soon. Top Prospects: Fat Palloon, Michael Hall, Alex Zouzouambe Prospect Grade: B @Victor @BigZouzou @Kelsier @UnkemptCL4PTP @Hops NEW YORK AMERICANS This aging team, starved for a proper rebuild, drafted very well at all positions in the past two drafts. With five retiring players at this season’s end, 1st round selection Markus Schauer began his rookie season at defense. Rounding out the prospect pool, Saskatoon teammates centerman Brian Strong Jr, goalie Cal Conway and defenseman Gabriel Johnson provide necessary depth and possibly front-runners to fill key positions next season. Aces centerman Rhynex Entertainment is developing quite nicely and could compete for a depth role. Quote from General Manager Esso Drunkmann: I think our prospect pool is really good. We have a bunch of them that came up this year and they are all great. Only thing I ask of them is to keep developing and have some fun around the team we're building. Top Prospects: Markus Schauer, Brian Strong Jr, Rhynex Entertainment, Cal Conway Prospect Grade: A- @Esso2264 @Plate @Wheaties @Rhynex Entertainment @Shaka @GeckoeyGecko PRAGUE PHANTOMS With two selections in the s74 draft, they selected John LeClair II and The Blob to round out their prospect pool. Although most of their prospects have turned out to be longer-term projects, they may have some diamonds in the rough. The team managed to strike gold late in the draft three times in the S73 draft, and obtained 3 of the 5 remaining active players past 46th overall. And it isn’t as if these are players to write off either; Secel Keller, Theodore James St Louis, and Zachariah Kisslinger regularly find themselves earning 6 to 10 TPE per week, and could be valuable assets on Prague’s roster in no time. The team will be experiencing some turnover in the next two or three seasons, so they have some time to address those needs through the draft if they chose to. One of the biggest question marks is Andre LeBastard, who hasn't performed up to 1st round caliber. He may be the big bust of the s73 draft. Quote from General Manager Jason Glasser While the prospect pool would have looked a lot better a season ago, before Dan Baillie Jr, Riley Knight Gee, and Andre Lebastard all graduated to the bigs, it's still a solid group of players, especially taking into account the limited number of picks we've had in order to get to this. 6 guys in the prospect pool, all at least somewhat active, and not a single one drafted earlier than 32. The Blob and Kisslinger will likely be ready to come up to the team next season, and ultimately I expect all of them to eventually contribute to the Phantoms on some level. Top Prospects: John LeClair II, Dan Baillie Jr Prospect Grade: B @diamond_ace @flyersfan1453 @wcats @KnightRiley @Andre LeBastard @JorgTheGoat03 @xsjack @Nick Kirkpatrick @Kisslinger RIGA REIGN This championship-caliber team will have massive holes to fill after the retirements of legendary defenseman Lincoln Tate and star forward Phil Marleau. Having selected twice in the S74 draft, they selected Jeffrenomitsu The 3rd and defenseman Matt Thunder. Jeffrenomitsu has made his Riga debut, while Thunder remains a longer-term prospect. S72 draftee Bobby Wyman seems right on the cusp of being a VHL player, however his development is still a question mark. Quote from General Manager Benjamin Zeptenbergs Our two prospects are gonna help to bolster our defensive core in the future. Our current D lineup is slowly running thin with Tate retiring following this season and both Sasakamoose and Clarke hitting another regression. So we will need help there. Good thing is we have two prospects with different mindset - Wyman as physical and shooting-first threat and Thunder as more of an all-arounder. I'm also glad we could pick them with later picks, it's always great to find a steal, since this also satisfies our positional needs. Top Prospects: Jeffrenomitsu The 3rd, Bobby Wyman Prospect Grade: B- @hedgehog337 @Jeffie43 @Lefty_S @Matt thunder SEATTLE BEARS Fresh off their fourth cup win in six seasons, Seattle still managed to keep a prospect pipeline to build a team to continue winning Continental Cups. First round selection Isabella Campbell headlines the ranks by joining Seattle right out of the draft. Defenseman Lucifer Olivier Leveque and centerman Leo Strauss round out the high caliber prospect pool. They remain in the VHLM this season to fine tune their games and look to join Seattle in the near future. Quote from General Manager Blake Campbell: I think right now Seattle has a pretty healthy and successful prospect pool. The fact that we’ve been winning with the same powerful core, or most of them, that we’ve had since S67 up to this off-season was super special. (Hulk) Hogan and Berocka (Sundqvist) are retiring at the season's end and all these players are going to jump in nicely to continue on the Bears legacy of incredible skill when it comes to the blue line for the last many seasons. I think these players mixing in with Odin Omdahl are going to continue to help Seattle find ways to contend for playoffs and the cup. Even though he is still very young, committed to himself and the Bears and a very good member/player in the league that others would love to have. This draft, we managed to come out very well. Overall, I think Seattle has done a good enough job that if we wanted to, we could continue to contend, make playoffs and keep the cupboards stored for seasons to come. As the seasons go on it may become a little more challenging but I think instead of challenging, just always on your toes and keeping your mind and eyes open. Moving forward, though, I feel like we’ve checked enough positional boxes to keep Seattle alive. Clearly, Blake Campbell is passionate about his Bears, and centerwoman/daughter Isabella finally making it to the big show. Top Prospects: Isabella Campbell, Lucifer Olivier Leveque, Rocket, Leo Strauss Prospect Grade: B+ @Banackock @InstantRockstar @Rocket @gregreg TORONTO LEGION With all the previous prospects having moved up to Toronto’s starting lineup and all inactives released, they used their two selections in the draft to pick two quality players. Aces winger Nicholas Sunderbruch and Halifax centerman Wolf Weiss are quality prospects that may move up to the VHL ranks as early as next season, provided they continue their development. Sunderbruch in particular has taken a big step forward in his development since the start of September, even capping out in a nice 24 TPE effort in the week of 9/20. He is definitely one to keep your eye on in the future. Besides these two prospects, Toronto’s pipeline is literally empty. They should address this need in future drafts. Quote from General Manager Rylan Peace: Currently, Toronto has holes all over the roster, and both of the Legions' prospects can help fill them when they make the jump to the VHL at the conclusion of their VHLM career. They can jump in and provide immediate stability while the Legion continues to look for ways to improve, and give us an opportunity to continue developing into a championship team. Matmenzinger's (player agent for Wolf Weiss) previous player was a staple for Moscow, so we know he's a reliable individual to bank some of our faith in. Nick Sunderbruch is a first generation player, but I'm impressed at his growth and I have no issues putting my faith in him as well; and of course I had two prospects graduate to the VHL this season, but Ziarie Anigbogu should be included on this list, so I add him here as someone who's been a reliable earner and will challenge for a top four role as soon as next season. Top Prospects: Nicholas Sunderbruch, Wolf Weiss Prospect Grade: C+ @Peace @Matmenzinger @NickSunderbruch @ngine4 VANCOUVER WOLVES This team has a very deep prospect pool. With six draftees from the s74 entry draft, they used their three, high first round selections to pick stars-in-the-making; center Venus Thightrap, winger Onde Sandstrom and defensewoman Emi Rune. They have all made their rookie debuts this season and will form the next core that is the Vancouver Wolves. With many prospects still playing in the VHLM, one notable player is centerwoman Riley Couture. She is very close to being VHL ready, but will remain with the Halifax 21st until next season. Other draftees include forwards Florent Vericel and Jeff Odinson, with Markus Emerson Jr playing goalie for Mexico City. These players are considered to be longer-term projects for the organization, as they have remained in the VHLM to develop their game before being called up. Take note of Emerson Jr, he has been developing at a rapid pace and may end up being an absolute steal of a pick from the 4th round. Him capping out in both of the last two weeks in which he put up a respective 40 and 24 TPE is remarkable, and undoubtedly a path that will lead him to much success at the VHL level. Quote from General Manager Keaton Louth: I feel like we really addressed all our team needs at the draft. Our team was at a crossroads where we have some great older talent and a couple prospects that were making the jump this season. We were heading up to the draft with lots of picks but only a few higher picks. I made it my goal to get as high as possible to get the game-breaking talent I knew was there without sacrificing anything of note. We were also able to grab a couple players that will make the team in the next few seasons which will help us once the older players retire. Top Prospects: Venus Thightrap, Onde Sandstrom, Emi Rune, Riley Couture, Jeff Odinson, Florent Vericel Prospect Grade: A+ @Beaviss @BladeMaiden @fonziGG @Emi @Riley_Couture @dart @GoldGear88 @Xflexz WARSAW PREDATORS The young franchise really stacked up their pipeline with the conclusion of the S74 draft. Three of their picks have already moved up to the VHL club, joining Arthur Dayne, Jeremy Lin, Victor Grachev and Dakota Lamb. With a total of seven rookies on the roster, the recent draftees integrate very well into the already young team. First overall selection Aloe Dear frontlines the prospect class. Fellow winger Lexi Glass and defenseman Tim Waters have proven that they were worthy to make that jump alongside Dear, and will be part of Warsaw’s core moving forward. Winger Chris Reynolds isn’t far behind on the depth chart. He needs to continue developing with a stacked Las Vegas Aces roster behind him. Quote from General Manager Damien Walec: Chris Reynolds has been working really hard since we selected him, and we're excited about his future. He's on a strong trajectory and should rank among the top prospects in the league. Angel Wachiure has been a steady and strong prospect for us, one that we really felt we got a great value with him. He's played well for Las Vegas so far this season, and we're excited to see what he can contribute for us in the future. Nathaniel N is a strong young prospect for our defensive core. We're willing to be patient with his development as we feel it'll pay off strong dividends in the future for us. Clearly, no comment was made on the S74 rookies, because they are already solid, which goes without needing any comment. Top Prospects: Aloe Dear, Lexi Glass, Tim Waters, Chris Reynolds, Dakota Lamb, Victor Grachev Prospect Grade: A+ @.sniffuM @Renomitsu @Siddhus @Crstats23 @dlamb @KaleebtheMighty @inflastud @AW13 @NathanN Word Count (excluding GM quotes) : 1800 somewhere around there I want to extend a special thank you to Patrick Tallinder. Thank you for your contribution, help and guidance. It means a lot to me and the VHL

  7. Hello everyone who is still with us! This journey is nearing an end as by the time the VHLSC gets set to write another rankings article, this draft year will have past and the players will go from draft hopefuls to prospects. Don't fret though, we got this one last issue before we hit the big day. Obviously this past couple weeks we have been seeing a ton of VHL Entry Draft Mock Drafts done by various people throughout our community. If you haven't got one done it isn't too late now and you can go create one. However, because of this influx of mock drafts we feel it might be overkill for us at VHLSC to do one this time around. So what did we do instead you ask, well we built the perfect skater and goaltender using the qualities that the current crop of VHL draft hopefuls contain. If you look below we got two different shadows consisting of parts from various different draft eligible players. So enough talking and more graphics! HOCKEY SENSE: Verner Reinholdt @Devise We chose Verner here because his knowledge of the game seems to be the highest of any draft hopeful. Verner possesses a strong sense of intelligence on the ice and also is graced with exceptional know-how in regards to positioning. His passing is second to none and ability to play on special teams and even strength make him valuable. FRAME: Fook Yu @tfong Fook Yu is a solid piece of meat put on skates to wreck havoc. Yu has a large frame with some muscles behind him but also is the king of hitting and going after star players. We don't think Yu will have many friends on the opposing teams. HANDS: Shawn Gretzky @TheLastOlympian07 Gretzky isn't like his relative because he is going into the VHL and not the NHL. Shawn does have some pretty hands though and his ability to dish the puck and also be creative when handling the puck set him apart from his counterparts. SCORING: Takashi Fujimoto @HFD This one might boost his stock a bit more than other player. Fujimoto is being looked at as a player in the second half of the first round. We are here to tell you that he is the best scorer in this draft class and if you want offence, this is the guy you want to select. SKATING: Rudolph Schmeckeldorf @Corco Rudolph the red-nosed speed skater is what he is being hailed as. Schmeckeldorf is the fastest skater in this draft year and if you want a speedy winger with a ton of potential this is your guy. Not to mention Rudolph has been very consistent in the draft rankings and in any other year would be a Top 3 Selection. REACTION TIME: Torstein Ironside @DollarAndADream Torstein Ironside is the fastest goaltender in this draft when it comes to moving laterally in his crease. His ability to stretch across makes him a goaltender who is never truly out of a play regardless of the move put on him. POSITIONING: Vernon Von Axelberry @BobertZ Vernon Von Axelberry might be the third best option at the goaltender position but his positioning is tops in this draft year. His ability to square to the shooter and take away portions of the net that a shooter would normally find right away is superb. GLOVE REFLEXES: Markus King @Kendrick Torstein may have the sharpest head when it comes to stretching across, but Markus King has a glove hand that is just filthy. King will usually do the flashy glove save just to build some momentum for his club when they are hemmed into their own zone. REBOUND CONTROL: Markus King Markus King shows up again but this time it's for his recognition of where to steer the puck upon saving it. This is key so that rebounds aren't tucked home and the blue liners are left shaking their heads. PUCK HANDLING: Torstein Ironside Ironside shows up again and this time it's for his ability to move the puck. Often a forgotten goaltender skill is to be able to move the puck and provide a good outlet pass for your forwards. Ironside showed up on the scoresheet a few times this past seasons.
  8. Welcome back to another edition of the VHLSC Draft Rankings. In edition #4 we have a breakdown of what is going on and what trends we are seeing in this draft. First off, the prospects in the top 13 positions seem to be on a steady climb in TPE (besides Rask Rowe @Rowe89). Sometimes the seasons grind can slow production down a bit but most of these prospects have been steadily increasing their value. One thing to note about that is that in years past that hasn't always been the case and it has greatly watered down our VHL Drafts because of players losing focus throughout the tough VHLM season. A couple of our players in the second round territory have sparked a little and have turned in a good couple weeks here. Luca Volkov (@Kyle) and Jon Snow (@ChiefNoka4) both injected some life into their draft value and both may see themselves in first round consideration if they continue on. For the first time in weeks, we see only two goaltenders in the top six positions. Markus King and Torstein Ironside both solidify themselves in the top three yet again. Aleksei Federov (@Banackock) has made the case to be the first defensemen off the board in the upcoming draft as he impresses with a strong couple weeks here. Fook Yu has a strangle hold on the #1 Centre position and teams will obviously be looking at him closely going into the draft. It takes us 8 positions to find our top winger and Rudolph Schmeckeldorf (@Corco) takes that title for now, but Takashi Fujimoto (@HFD) is hot on his trail. Going forward we will be watching several battles for position rankings. Being that some times have needs bigger than others, we could see a shift in draft focus as not all teams need goaltenders or even defensemen. The battle for the #1 goaltender taken will be interesting but the most interesting might be the battle for top Right Winger selected. Takashi Fujimoto and Verner Reinholdt (@Devise) are battling it out and one of these has a veteran agent behind him and the other is fairly new. Teams may choose to go the new route as the ceiling looks to be higher on the young Fujimoto. How do you see the first round shaping up?
  9. Hello everyone and welcome the VHLSC Draft Rankings #2! I know we said there wouldn't be one this week but we quickly threw one together to keep the people happy. Also the past two weeks have been very busy in regards to TPE earning by our prospects and we figure we'd highlight those gym gains. Storylines for this draft have been drawn already by some of the youngsters. Hudson Abbott (@Scooter) has been working exceptionally hard and has climbed his way into lottery conversation; all while being a first generational talent. We even have three new prospects to speak about in the coming weeks ahead. Takashi Fujimoto (@HFD) is brand new and has risen the charts so much that he finds himself in first round territory already. Riley Harper (@Daniel) also introduced himself this past week and has already jumped up the board fairly quickly. Verner Reinholdt (@Devise) is new to the charts and his slow rise has put him in a good position going forward. Still no word from Big Gow (@Fire Hakstol), Revan Gotze (@Wilson), Journeyman (@eaglesfan036), Ofer (@xDParK), Ryan Beadle (@GoFlamesGo), Alexander Wolf (@thatdamnwalrus), Arthan Lawrence (@Jeffsan21) and Johan Soderberg (@Foehammer). Oh and here are some graphs!
  10. Hello everyone! Welcome back to the VHLSC Draft Rankings. Another year has passed and we saw the players go from prospects to draftees. We'd like to thank @boubabi for working with us and giving the Season 53 draftees some spotlight through there very won pre-draft website and analysis. This year has started off with a bang and many new faces have shown up to provide us with some added homework and some great spotlight adventures. Give a read through the rankings and read up on each positional breakdown chart. We want to welcome all the newcomers who may not be used to VHLSC or exactly it relates to. You are in for a wild and graphical ride through the analysis of the 54th Annual VHL Draft prospects! @Rowe89 @Kendrick @DollarAndADream @Banackock @Foehammer @GoFlamesGo @Wilson @tfong @BobertZ @Cope @TheLastOlympian07 @Scooter @Seth @Corco @Jeffsan21 @thatdamnwalrus @Fire Hakstol @JPL @xDParK @eaglesfan036
  11. So this draft is really heating up and the progression of some of the best youngsters for the future is in full swing. This week we give you a little bit of the skinny on what this draft is about and who is who. A lot of interesting storylines but also a lot of little facts about this draft that might reach someones eyes who looks to declare in the future. Give this a read over and then go recruit someone from another sim league to get their name in the rankings! Shoutout to @TheLastOlympian07 for his recruitment this week, where he was able to pull a few returnee members and a couple new ones as well!
  12. Who ever reads this part of the Rankings anyways? You all want the Mock Draft so it is below. Note that it is just guesstimates. We don't have inside information on what these crazy General Managers are thinking before the draft; we strictly go off previous trends and relationships as well as team needs and progression. Enjoy!
  13. Hello everyone! Welcome back to another year of Victory Hockey League Scouting Services Draft Rankings! This year we have quite the presentation to give you. In the words of so many people "Finally something to rant and rave about". Twenty-Seven prospects have declared already for the 52nd VHL Entry Draft and there are some stellar players already in the mix. What if I told you that this years first ranked player would most likely go 2nd overall in last years draft, already. We are in for a real treat, so without further adieu; here is the VHLSC Draft Rankings for the upcoming VHL Entry Draft! @jRuutu @gregreg @STZ @Mr. Hickey @Phil @YEAH!stlemania @evrydayimbyfuglien @.sniffuM @Tylar @Harry F'n Hans @Kylrad @Molholt @Christmas @frescoelmo @Toast @Daniel @jfranzen @LB. @mixmasterswitch @Smarch @fatstacksofmacks @Boomcheck @R1c3Muncher @biggy_dooberman @PapaGrim @Eggy216
  14. First and foremost, yes we know it is the Season 51 Mock Draft so ignore the thing below which has it wrong. This draft sucked, so let's just get through this so we can discard of this draft and get to the next. Shoutout to the draftees who actually progressed and showed a ton of promise @Velevra and @Gunner
  15. This years draft is shaping up to be one of the worst in VHL history and the past two weeks cemented that fact for us here at VHLSC. VHLM GM's need to push their prospects because this past two weeks were the worst develop weeks in VHL history. Between the 12 prospects entering this years VHL Entry Draft, only 26 practice hours were logged collectively. That is an average of just over 2 TPE per prospects and considering only 3 prospects combined for that total; we are in rough shape. We can't recruit for this draft season obviously but the recent discussions and recruitment rewards have limited the initiative for recruitment league wide. This year is a two-horse race we'd rather you shed light on these two prospects instead of worrying about the ones who have avoided showing up. Read it, then go out and help a prospect. Retainment, Retainment and more Retainment!
  16. Before we begin and give you the presentation we want you to realize that fi you are a draftee who felt slighted by not being presented in this article, make us notice you. Too many floaters just sitting around doing nothing makes for a dull season of VHLSC rankings. Let's go out and actually improve and do the 5 second tasks that get you simple TPE and improve your player towards HOF!
  17. Welcome everyone to the Season 51 VHLSC Draft Rankings for the upcoming draft! Our recent crop of draftees have all left our presence and we are left with...this. We have nine prospects and so far only a few jump out at us from the gate. We are hoping this can be fixed in two weeks. First though let's introduce them all to you!
  18. Every time we do the the annual VHLSC Mock draft, we feel like Oprah giving away a car! In a sense, the mock draft is the only thing some General Managers do in regards to scouting *ahem Quebec*. Now we will be the first to admit that not every draft picks requires an insane amount of scouting because what you see is what you get. However, doing a bit of research and maybe some contact with the draftees themselves is a huge step in keeping them hooked on the league. So whether you think it helps or not, it does keep a member intrigued if he is on the fence about staying or not. One of the reasons VHLSC came about is because while I was a General Manager I decided to do my due diligence and approach draftees who I was interested in at the draft. I wanted to build a rapport before the draft had taken place and because of that I had some second rounders (even third rounders) stay with the franchise and become depth players. The draft can be a whole lot more rewarding as a General Manager if he makes it a whole lot more rewarding for a player. With that I leave you this season and on to the next season, but first here is the Mock Draft for the Season 50 VHL Entry Draft!
  19. Welcome back to another edition of the VHLSC Draft Rankings! When we last spoke, you saw a presentation regarding the locations and places where these players situate themselves on our planet. This week we bring you the players who lead their draft class in their respective positions. It's been quite the battle for some of these players and for others its been an easy race to the top of their positional rankings. Position can have a huge impact on draft position as later things get dicey with some teams needing certain positions over players higher in the rankings. Team needs won't be covered in this edition but we will give you the best of the best in each position. The past couple weeks have shown us who wants to be in the first round conversation and who doesn't. Plenty of players have made pushes and several have dropped off. Maksym Barnyashev has been flying up the boards. Elijah Dotran has made huge strides as well and both the above listed players are attempting to be first round draft picks. Without further adieu here are the top of each draft positions class!
  20. Welcome back! No introduction needed, let's dive into this weeks VHLSC Rankings with the new crop of prospects vying for the first overall pick!
  21. Oh yeah it's that time of year again! Almost time to lay this draft class to bed and usher them off to their respective VHL teams courtesy of the VHL Entry Draft. Welcome everyone back to the VHLSC Draft Rankings and our annual Mock Draft! A lot has changed in this weeks rankings but before we get to there we want to lay out some information about the Mock Draft at the end of this article. First, these selections are not based on any one players opinion of a team or public disapproval of any specific team in general. However, if a said prospect has made it known his career plans that will come into effect for any team that drafts him, that may slide him down a notch. We will also let you know that the postseason is not over and the picks in our order are base don the current situations in both conferences. Also, picks are owned by other organizations and that is why you see multiple picks owned by teams. This has been a productive couple weeks for our draftees that have moved around quite a bit. Kendrick Tsbagsuph-Diks has been steadily increasing his time in the gym and he became the biggest moving and the highest earner in the past two weeks. A special shoutout to Asher Donovan who is no longer considered a S49 draftee because of his fake birth certificate. Also we'd like to point out that Sven Wolf has been on a role the past couple weeks and it has helped his draft stock tremendously. Now it is time to get to our Mock Draft!
  22. A long two weeks since we last spoke, but that only made the storylines grow and also the draft list length! Welcome back to another edition of the VHLSC Draft Rankings. Since the last rankings were published we have gained nine total draftees. Yikes! Talk about a pleasurable sight for the VHL General Managers. This year it appears that the rarer 4th Round pick will actually be a thing. It has been since the 46th VHL Entry Draft that we have been without a 4th round in our annual prospect selection day, so it is a welcoming sign. As always we give you the bi-weekly round-up and then give you are featured presentation. This week we find out what countries are represented in this years draft class in a colourful presentation. After two weeks we'd expect to see some huge totals pop up but actually this draft class isn't moving as productively as years past despite the sheer number of prospects. Not one prospect moved up the chart who was there two weeks ago. In fact more prospects moved down because of the new entrees rapid progression. We will tell you that Shayne Gow decided to get on his horse and race away with this weeks top earner. Unfortunately no one else made huge strides and in a time where a prospect could have 18 practice hours, only two prospects covered that total. As a matter of fact, only 6 prospects in total did anything in the past two weeks. Looks like VHLSC will have to have a word with the VHLM GM's: @Banackock @sterling @StevenStamkos91 @atw2592 @JardyB10 @Evans @Daniel @ADwyer87 Oh and here is your feature this week!
  23. Welcome back everyone to the second edition of the VHLSC Draft Rankings for Season 49! If you are wondering why it says Season 49, that is because the draft year always follows the VHL Postseason and thus belongs to the following off-season. Anyways, but to the topic at hand; the draft prospects. This year is shaping up to be a pretty solid draft class, one in which could beat previous years in depth. Currently you can find a prospect that has done something more than just create a player at positions as low as 17th overall. Every year we get a crop of players that we have no clue how to scout as they haven't done much, but we hope to give you at least a little bit of insight on them. Before we tackle the edition theme, we'll bring you the bi-weekly roundup! This past two weeks created some separation for some prospects, but also a lot of prospects were able to close the gap between them and their prospect counterparts. Ted Doughty made huge strides and despite his 42 practice hours, he still didn't move up any spots. Just goes to show you that tight races continue in the middle of the rankings just as much as the top. Shayne Gow made minimal sides int raining but ended up as the biggest mover this week; moving thirteen places above his previous spot. We're hoping more prospects end up increasing their totals and helping their draft stock in the weeks to come! @FueledByRamen @Green @gorlab @Finster @FootF3tish @Da Trifecta @jaladolar @Mr.Baller @Butch @701 @WoldenGhore @Cuffy @snake3001 @flyersfan1493 @Ventas @Caillean @Milldaddy @JPL @riverriverriverriverriver @jjdynamite @tpellerin55 @Ramicus @Tantlaum *VHLM GM's please do not stop trying to develop these guys. If you stop trying, they stop flooding the TPE areas and then the drafts suck. The draft is the lifeblood of the VHL talent pool and if you slack you might as well hand in your papers now to get out of your job.
