    New VHLM GMs

After losing Bushito to the Stockholm's GM role and with Kendrick stepping down from Ottawa, the VHLM had two vacancies at GM positions. After some deliberation, Frank and I have come to a decision on who the two new GMs will be. Taking Kendrick's place at the head of Ottawa will be none other than @Beaviss, who is new but we believe that he will definitely be getting valuable VHL experience from this. He has proven himself to be quite active already as a first-gen, which really helped his case. @JardyB10 will be his Co-GM if he needs any help or guidance. Stepping in for Bushito in Oslo will be a returning member, and a former VHLM GM, @Megster. Meg has returned and made a very good case for herself as a VHLM GM, and despite a past reputation, looks to be turning that around now. Congratulations to both candidates and happy GMing!

  6. As everyone knows it's finally official. New York firesale hasn't just started, it's basically over. A bunch of us have found our way over to the Riga Reign, while the last few stragglers ended up on Davos. All of us now competing in Europe with a very confident and talented Helsinki squad for Season 56. While I was GM I was keeping the all time stats list for the team updated, and now that Season 55 is over I have some final notes to report on where everyone who now used to be on the team stands. While it is still a bit heartbreaking to know a few of these guys could of been even higher on these lists, still some awesome achievements by a group of guys who really stayed loyal to us for a long period of their careers. Bobby Digital aka @gorlab - Bobby Digital was never going to be able to tie the record for most games played for the franchise. Initially only because he was traded from Davos 2 games into the season so he'd be two games shy of reaching Jukka Hakkinen as the only player to play all 576 games. However the longstanding New York Captain finds himself in a strong position still. With Season 55 he has played 502 games, two shy of the 504 put up by Braxton, Low, and XXX. E'Twaun Delicious will remain in 2nd place with his 553 games played. Amazingly Digital only had 18 goals with the club in those 502 games, as he was always a pass first type of player, including accomplishing the zero goal season in Season 54. However Digital sits 5th all tine in assists, with 372, and also finished 5th for Franchise hits with 1297, and climbed all the way to 3rd in shots blocked sitting at 849. Playoff wise, Bobby Digital sits only behind Daniel Braxton when it comes to games played, Braxton has 72 to Digitals 60. He sits tied for 2nd in playoff assits with Unassisted, both players finished with 46. Braxton still holds the top spot there with 49. He is also tied for 4th in playoff hits, and is 2nd with SB in playoffs for the franchise with 180 and 119 respectively. The longstanding Captain will no doubt get his numbered hung in the rafters for New York once he finally calls it a career, and it's hard not to fathom with how close he was on some of these lists that he would of been 1 in a few categories had he played his final season with New York. Diana Maxwell aka @Strtlght - Maxwell started slow but evolved into the leagues premiere goalscorer and one of the top forwards in the league. Despite only playing 5 seasons and 360 games with the franchise Maxwell managed an impressive number of points for NY, sitting tied for 8th total with 505 points. Included in that is 239 goals which places her 5th in franchise history. Playoff wise much like the rest of the core here Maxwell played 55 games which is a 4 way tie for 4th. But believe it or not, despite only scoring 3 goals in the S55 playoffs Diana Maxwell now leads all New York Americans players for franchise goals in the playoffs with 34, one better than Tukka Reikkinens 33 tally. There is no denying the impact Maxwell had on the club, and with two more seasons left in her career there will still be plenty more goals for her to score, only now with the Davos Dynamo. Unassisted aka @STZ - Spending half of his eight season career with the Americans Unassisted cemented his overall HoF legacy while with the club. Unassisted just broke the top ten in franchise points at 10th, with 485. Oddly enough leads the entire franchise in total plus minus toppling Conner Lows +285 with a +292 and finished 6th in GWG with 46. Playoff wise Unassisted always seemed to rise to the occasion for the Americans, with a tie for 2nd all time in assists for playoffs with 46, and finally toppling Daniel Braxton for most total playoff points in franchise history with 72. Braxton had 69. The most impressive thing about Unassisteds time with NY was how much he was able to get done with still a relatively short time. Lots of legendary names on these lists a lot of which played many more games with NY that simply couldn't do the type of damage that Unassisted was capable of. Essian Ravenwing aka @der meister - Ravenwing like Maxwell was a bit of slow starter, but always had a panache for game winning goals, especially it seemed in the playoffs. Ravenwing finished his New York tenure with 405 points in 360 games. Ravenwing also finished tied for 8th in the clutch depratment, with 40 total game winning goals for the franchise. Playoff wise Ravenwing finished tied for 6th in assists with 34, and 8th in playoff points with 52 in 55 games played. Ravenwing ultimately potted 7 game winning goals in the playoffs for the club, which is good for a tie for 4th with the legendary Conner Low. That about does it. Shankly had some decen hits but realistically he was only cracking tops in a lot of categories there if he stayed a bit longer with the team. Was a fun ride, and despite it ending short these four names who made up much of the core here for our tenure really put some numbers up. Maxwell in particular sitting 1st in total playoff goals I think is impressive, especially considering she had a rather lackluster playoffs for us as we got ousted by Quebec. I'd argue all four of these players probably have the credibility with the franchise to see jersey retirements, especially when you then consider they were all huge factors in the back to back Championship wins. So to all you lads, as we put this chapter of the VHL behind ourselves.

  8. One report recently caught up with the United States Junior hockey team outside their locker room after their most recent game, a 6-1 loss at the hands of team Europe. We asked to speak to team leaders and point scorers like Bo Boeser or upcoming VHL Draft first overall pick Gabriel McAllister. Instead, the team sent out to us bottom pairing defensemen Colton Rayne to discuss the teams recent play, and his future with regards to the upcoming VHLM Draft. Reporter: Great to meet you Colton, my condolences on the 6-1 smattering you guys just took. How did you think the team played despite the score? Rayne: Thanks. Yea, aside from the lopsided score I thought we played a decent game. Our shot totals were close, and we blocked shots well. But we ran into some penalty trouble which bogged down our offense a little, and theres nothing you can do when you run into a hot goalie, Perought came up big for them on a lot of shots tonight. Reporter: The seedings look to be about set and team USA will be playing team Europe again in the opening round of the medal rounds. Any hope coming from your locker room? Rayne: Without a doubt. We got a lesson today against team Europe, but we can put that knowledge to good use and I think we're gonna surprise people when the first game rolls around. We've got some real scoring threats in Bo, and Kane, and even being one of the leading scorers in his position the tournament, I don't think McAllister has really shown us everything he has yet. If we tighten our defensive game up there's no reason we can't win. Reporter: How do you think you've played personally? You don't have any points in the tournament yet, has that been weighing on you? Rayne: I've honestly played better than I expected to. Offense is not really my game, so the lack of points doesn't bother me much. I've had a few good hits, and got my toes wet in both the penalty kill and power play. Despite us getting a little blow out the last 2 games, I'm still only at a -2 which i think in the long run reflects well on me. The only game I wish I had back was one of the Canada games where i drop a -3. Other than that I think I've had a solid showing for a shut down defenseman heading into the draft. Reporter: Speaking of the draft, have you given any thought to which round your going to go? Any teams you particularly hope draft you? Rayne: I've been focused on the tournament the last couple days, but yea, I couldn't help but look at the draft order and see where I should fall. If it plays out normally I'll probably go in the late 4th or early 5th round. Off the record, I'd love to play for the Aces or for Ottawa but I don't really have a preference. I'll play hard for which ever team decided to take me. Report: Well good luck in tournament and in the upcoming draft Colton, and thanks for your time. Rayne: No problem, My pleasure. After what turned out to be a decent at best interview, we're excited to see what Team USA can bring to the table in the medal round, and What Colton Rayne can bring to the VHLM next year!

  9. S57 Draft Talent Rankings: Goalies Shawn Brodeur and Ike Arkander are two of the top goalies of this class Rating System Norris Kensington Nationality: Grade: 8.5C VHL Comparable: Rhett DeGrath Analysis: Norris Kensington is the perfect example of a modern-day goaltender. The good ol' Canadian boy looms over opposing skaters; standing at 6'8" tall, he is the tallest goaltender of this draft class. That hulking frame is the biggest reason why Kensington can stop pucks with the best of 'em; he relies on that huge size to take up most of the net, giving shooters very little net to aim for. To go along with that big size, Kensington also uses his above-average reaction time to snag pucks labeled for the top shelf when in the butterfly position. Norris has the potential to be a superstar in the VHL, and I personally think he will reach that potential, but this can be argued. Whether he likes it or not, Kensington's player agency does have a history of losing interest in it's players as their careers progress, and that's the biggest worry that scouts have about this giant goaltender. Miguel Luc-LeGrand Nationality: Grade: 5.5C VHL Comparable: Our Lady of Perpetual Motion Analysis: Miguel Luc-Legrand has a mountain to climb if he wants to make the VHL. At this rate, the Quebec City native isn't being viewed favorably by any VHL scouts. He hasn't shown up to practice since signing up for the VHL Draft, which is a big red flag, and every day that goes by without him improving is a bigger and bigger hit to his draft stock. Right now, he projects as a backup VHL netminder at the very best. Ike Arkander Nationality: Grade: 9.0A VHL Comparable: Apollo Skye Analysis: We like Ike. The Swedish netminder is the latest player to declare for the S57 Draft Class, although sadly he won't be in the draft. Arkander will be assigned to the New York Americans via the GM Player rule as the first GM player of the STZ player agency in New York. He definitely has the potential to be a record breaker in the VHL; all the tools are there. His fundamentals are very strong, and although his secondary skills are raw, he will be in good hands with his agency. Practically all other players from his agency have been superstars and/or Hall-of-Famers, so there is no reason to think that Arkander will be any different. Michael Roy Nationality: Grade: 7.5C VHL Comparable: MT Power Analysis: Michael Roy looks to be a bit of an enigma, I'm not sure what to make of him. After doing some research, it appears that his agency has stated that he has no big plans to help Roy become a great goalie in the VHL; but on the other hand, it's just hard to believe that such an esteemed agency would do such a thing. Roy showed up to his first practice and workout, although that was three weeks ago, and has since neglected to improve his game. If he does decide to get back on track though, he could definitely challenge his fellow S57 netminders to become the best goalie of this class, but it's just too early to say what will happen either way. His agency has had absolute superstars before, so the potential is certainly there for Roy. Rennie Bacani Nationality: Grade: 2.5F VHL Comparable: Jacob Worboy Analysis: Bacani won't be playing any good hockey for any VHL team. Bacani's biggest attribute is that he's exotic, he's Filipino. Being the starting goaltender for Team Asia in the World Juniors is probably the best that Bacani can hope for at this point, because it doesn't seem like he really even wants to be a VHLer. Shawn Brodeur Nationality: Grade: 8.0B VHL Comparable: Jacob Analysis: Shawn Brodeur, right now, is arguably leading the pack of S57 goalies in terms of skill. The Montreal native has already seen time in the spotlight as well, starting for the Las Vegas Aces during their cinderella run to the S55 VHLM Finals as well as platooning the Team Canada goal crease with Norris Kensington in the S55 World Juniors. Of all goalies so far, Brodeur has spent the most time in the gym and on the ice, and that doesn't look to be stopping anytime soon. His agency has had some stars and some busts in the past, so what happens with Brodeur in the future is unknown (the agency has also never had a goaltender before), but for all intents and purposes, he has the looks of a future starting VHL netminder. He may not turn into a Hall-of-Famer, but should absolutely turn into a goalie you can rely on.

Not that I disagree that your picks are better, but are you aware of how picks work? There is literally and I mean this earnestly, LITERALLY, zero percent chance any of the picks traded to Cologne go later than 10th. Because you know, there are only 10 picks in the first round. Sorry. And since one of them is a Davos pick, and if they say were to get eliminated in the first round, your looking at potentially 6 even depending on points. Unlikely given their new situation but EU is going to interesting this season anyways so. The only confirmed 10th they got from this deal was the S56 HES 1st. The S58 HSK 1st could also be as well. Either way this is a stupid trade for Cologne. Helsinki doesn't need any more great players and your basically gifting them another good young one to keep on running here.

  18. It's official, Verner Reinholdt will be with the Toronto Legion the rest of his career. That is unless he is traded. The "old man" turned young who has found his vigour and youth for the game of hockey signed 5 season contract extension complete with a no trade clause. While Reinholdt and his agent hope to spend all of those seasons in Toronto, he recognizes that in the VHL anything can happen. Especially trades, as we are seeing now in the off-season as trades blow up. Reinholdt was asked about his extension and had the following to say.

    Jakab Holik Retires

1000 TPE Shaw Trophy Those were two things I had never done in the VHL and perhaps my main goals when I created Holik. I wanted to do what I had never done and be named the top goalie and finally surpass that mountain of 1000 TPE; even if it has become an easy landmark for some. Unfortunately Holik’s career will be bittersweet for me. While I did get my main two objectives, and easily my best goalie stats to boot (as well as 2nd all time in shutouts, not that it will last) Holik ultimately was disappointing in several regards. He could never truly get out of the shadows for one. I managed to capture a Shaw sure but I followed that Shaw with 2 better seasons that saw me still playing second (or third depending who you ask) fiddle to better, younger goalies in regards to statistics. I also never managed even a cup finals appearance, let alone a cup, despite playing on teams that arguably should have been there. I don’t regret any decisions I really made; I just don’t know what the sim engine really wanted from me. I do want to thank a couple of my GM’s: @Banackock for believing in me even though my rookie season with Davos was atrocious (if it hadn’t of been maybe I would have beat Clegane in shutouts) and bringing me in to help lead the team in Seattle. I know you felt bad about not getting us a cup, I feel bad about it too, but I don’t blame you. You built the team as best you could and we got two victory cups out of it but just couldn’t reach the pinnacle. You still helped turn me from the mediocre rookie into one of the league’s top goalies. @Devise for potentially messing up his own career in order to give me a shot in NY. No other competing team was even looking my way and you took a risk on me. You benched yourself and crippled the NY defense just to bring me in. I know you have apologized for not getting me a cup but I apologize for letting you down. You put your faith in Holik to be the best goalie in the league and at the end of the day I simply wasn’t. Anyway, this is getting too long and probably too ranty. The point is, I officially retire Jakab Holik; the man with the first name no one could spell. My first player to ever hit 1000, my first player to ever go the full time (even Miller retired at the deadline of his 8th season). Sadly my second straight goalie to retire with no cup but who knows; maybe we’ll have some weak classes and I can get him into the Hall based on regular season stats.

  39. New York, New York Moments after being named the new GM of the New York Americans, Vince Wong was gifts with many of great items. Helsinki GM Mitch Higgins gifts him with an enormous pan of lasagna, while Davos GM Conner Low surprised him with matching friendship bracelets. Others gave him bottles of wine, cartons of darts, and gift cards, but there was one that really hit the heart of the longtime VHL Player Agent. It was the gift from Calgary Wranglers GM Austin Gow, who gave him the his Netflix Password. Wong raved about it, although limited to the Canadian released, he was still thrilled to be able to watch premium streamable television. It was until late Tuesday night when Wong was halfway through Season 1 Episode 5 of Shameless when he got an error message on his Netflix account. Wong was confused, as he thought the Netflix account was a gift that he could use long term. He never would have started such a long season, had he known the privileges would be taken away because Calgary GM didn't get his way. While many believe this cone of silence was due to Wong not taking a better offer from Calgary, after he had already agreed to another trade. Wong firmly believes that Gow is still bitter about Unassisted walking away from his superteam and winning back to back cups.
