  3. Welcome to the VHL, Ch1l31sH3r3! We're happy to have you. You should have received a PM with some more detailed information, but to get started quickly you will want to head over to the "How to Create a Player" topic. That topic will offer you detailed information about how to use the VHL Portal to create your player and get you started. We also highly recommend joining the VHL Discord where there is a channel dedicated to helping new members with any questions that they may have about the league or improving their player. Once your player is made VHLM General Managers will be in touch with you about joining their teams. In the meantime, please feel free to ask any questions you have here or in your create-a-player thread. We're happy to have you in the community and we hope you stick around!
  4. 1. We’ve only got a few regular season sims left, who do you predict will be the Continental Cup champion? I've still got Toronto. Europe is going to be a slog to get through, and the Legion have had such a strong team from day one. 2. Our beauty of a captain, David Jokinen, has had a career year! Any words to commend him on this feat? Oh captain my captain! And assistant captain! And other assistant captain! Here's to hoping it continues next season when I'm also up. 3. What do you believe we can learn from this season that we can carry onto the next? Any bold predictions or suggestions? To be honest? Not really. There's going to largely be a new roster next season, so while it's been great to get a few wins, I think a lot of the game planning will start from square one. 4. If you had a chance to add a new award to the VHL, what would it be and what would you name it? You say people don't build players with fighting? Then let's change that - most fights won now gets an award. We're calling it the Rocky Award until we get a good VHL legend to name it after. 5. Regarding fighting in hockey, do you believe it is a staple of the sport? Or is it something that should be phased out of the game entirely? I swear I didn't see this question before answering the last one. Honestly, the reason that a lot of people play sports is to get some aggression out. As long as it's not causing lasting injuries, then yeah, let them have at it. 8. Since this debate has flared up again recently: is a hot dog a sandwich? People focus too much on this question and not the alternative: I think every ham sandwich should be called a hot dog. Think about it - contains a pig-based meat, you typically want to eat it with condiments for flavor, comes within some sort of bun. Real geniuses have been saying this.
  5. 1. We’ve only got a few regular season sims left, who do you predict will be the Continental Cup champion? Moscow 2. Our beauty of a captain, David Jokinen, has had a career year! Any words to commend him on this feat? He’s my hero. 3. What do you believe we can learn from this season that we can carry onto the next? Any bold predictions or suggestions? Win more, lose less 4. If you had a chance to add a new award to the VHL, what would it be and what would you name it? The Ray Bourque Trophy. Player who wins the most fights 5. Regarding fighting in hockey, do you believe it is a staple of the sport? Or is it something that should be phased out of the game entirely? Ouch. You serious? Whoever is suggesting that fighting be phased out is not a hockey player. You cannot participate in playoff hockey without hitting hard and that sometimes flares up into a fight. Now, the fighters can decide how hard to punch. 6. The Stanley Cup playoffs have begun! Which team has impressed you most thus far? It’s easier for me to tell you which team has not impressed me. That would be the Bruins, my team. They cannot maintain 60 minutes of playoff hockey. I thought Big Rig would help motivate them, but thus far, they soften up too soon. 7. In terms of playstyle and build, which NHL player is yours most similar to? Radko Gudas. Love that Gudas hip check!! 8. Since this debate has flared up again recently: is a hot dog a sandwich? It can be when it’s called a polish sandwich, ie. the hotdog is split in half and placed on two slices of bread with pickles mustard ketchup and onion. Other than that, no. Especially when a hot dog is cut up and put in spaghettiios. Oh, now I’m hungry.
  6. I see I'm not the only Wyatt Johnston fan.
  7. Today
  8. Hmm. Sure, why not? Gotta learn at some point.
  9. 1. Calgary seems to have heard you and now started winning too much, hopefully they start losing again soon! 2. They remind me of the Minnesota Wild in 2011-12. League leaders after 30 games, missed the playoffs. 3. No, I am interested in the playoffs if we don't make the playoffs. 4. I believe they will get drafted in the First Round to a team in either the North American or European Conference. 5. I think she would still look dead in yoga pants 6. A feather. Also just for laughs mascot, nice!
  10. The Vasteras Iron Eagles currently sit 3rd in the VHLE with 91 points in 68 games played. The point scoring lead on the team is held by the electric VHLE rookie Gianfranco Del Rocco @Victor who has 76 points in 68 games. 2nd on the team in scoring is rookie defender, Lucy Leitner, with 56 points in 68 games. With 11 goals and 45 assists, Leitner leads the team in the helpers category, and on paper, 11 goals seems like a respectable number, but a quick glance at Leitner's shooting percentage tells a different story. Shooting at 3.86% on the season, Leitner's 285 shots on goal are the most by any defender in the VHLE. Compared to the defender with the next highest shot total, the results are strikingly clear. Leitner's former Houston teammate, Benjamin Abenduct @Schnee, has 21 goals on 270 shots, shooting a modest 7.78%. With 10 more goals than Leitner with fewer shots and a shooting percentage that is still below league average, it becomes clear why Leitner was approached this week with a sponsorship deal from Little Bites-- you know, like the company that makes mini-muffins? Last season, critics of Leitner referred to her then as a "muffin factory" owing to her apparent inability to convert shots into goals at a rate comparable to her peers. Though her shooting percentage last season eventually rose to a respectable 8% by the end of the season, it did hover around the 3-4% mark for much of her VHLM rookie campaign. This time around in the VHLE, there seems to be no such puck luck for Leitner who expressed her frustration with her futile shooting efforts. "My main goal is to help the team win, but when you shoot 285 times and only score 11 goals-- something is wrong with that picture. The silver lining, I guess, is it got me this sponsorship and the team is still doing fine overall". The sponsorship deal, which is set to pay Leitner $100,000 and a lifetime's supply of Little Bites muffins, was signed on Monday evening before the Iron Eagles would take on the Rome Gladiators in a back-to-back. Vasteras would eventually take the win in both of those games with Leitner recording the opening goal in the first game, only 5:38 into the 1st period of play. There were reports of Little Bites' interest in Leitner as a brand ambassador last season until her shooting percentage spiked upward and the "muffin factory" moniker fell out of favor. This season, however, the muffin factory is back up and running, churning out muffins for goalies to gobble up. Ever the optimist, Leitner has remained upbeat about the less than flattering comparison and has continued to work on her shot in practice, hoping to shut down muffin production once and for all. At this time, we don't know if the Little Bites sponsorship would be voided if her shooting percentage eclipses a certain threshold, but for the time being, Lucy "Little Bites" Leitner is rolling in the dough.
  11. Review This is beautiful. I love the composition of the piece. The tall aspect ratio and your player looking up at the logo makes everything fit together so well. Everything blends so seamlessly from one element to the next. Also, the half-tones used on the edges really give that rugged/burnt look. This is the kind of graphic that makes me work harder to increase the quality of my own. Thank you for sharing it. 10/10

  14. We also need nation states and oil money invested in us, then we can go global and add the VHLA.
  15. Review: This was a nicely written piece with a lot of creative details and goes very much in depth with his junoir years. You really get a feel for the passion behind the story and the characters being described. I would of been intrigued to find out more about the roots of " the mighty ice wizard". Although there was no big back story about the player I would give this article an "A" for creativity and storytelling. It definitely was able to keep my attention while reading. 87 words
